What an experience! Everyone, including me, wouldn't allow me in a delivery room under normal circumstances. I tend to get way too excited, nervous, and a bit psychodic. My daughter was supposed to be the coach, but came down with stomach flu. Suprisingly, I was invited into the room. The first 10 hours made me wonder why I didn't wait 30 years to have kids. Who sleeps through a delivery??? It's a painless situation with the drugs they have now! Well, Mom and Dad slept, and I got a lot of knitting done because there was no place for me to sleep. Has anyone ever heard of the curve? At the end, the baby wasn't making the curve under the pelvis bone. I coached through 2 hours of intense pushing until the doctor suggested a suction device that, of course, I'd never heard of. Too bad they have to tell you the possible drawbacks from this, because it was necessary, since the little guy was trying to make it down the shoot sideways. A few pushes with suction, and there he was. I didn't recognize anything at the onset. What I saw reminded me of a thawed chicken you take out of the bag. The nurse finally grabbed him up in the air, and all the body parts fell into place. Now this I could recognize! He's little, 6 pounds 10 ounces, but all together and alert! Big blue eyes! Cute!!! How many Grandma's get this opportunity? It was the most incredible experience of my life!!! Dawn |
