I wish there was a good answer to this question. I am collecting survivors benefits, so I have been collecting something but my own SS would be higher and with 2 1/2 years to full retirement, I am confused. Some say wait until 66, some say wait until 70 (I think bad advice) and some say start now because there is a break even point (although I don't know how to figure that. So the question of "when" is a question I cannot seem to find good advice for or even a rationale for waiting or not. |

Posted by AARPMiller When to apply is a personal choice for certain. If a person is wealthy then they probably should collect a s a p. If you think you will live a long time and are a gambler then wait until you are 70. But when I see public-figures who had a fortune they could spend on their own healthcare and died in their 60's or early 70's ....then I personally decided to take SS as soon as it was allowed also based on my older members of the family's age of expiration. |

I think the whole process depends on your health, if you are able and want to keep on working I think you should. There are healty people who work until their 80's and 90's. I am on disability and I wish I could work. So retire when you think you should according tio the ability to go on. Health has everything to do with it. If you have money you can retire early, if you don't then you need to go on, because without funds, there is not a lot of things you can do, except stay home. The thing to do is invest wisely and save your money if you can. Work as long as you can so that you may draw more. benefits. . |
