In Response to Re: What are your retirement plans?: I am interested in retiring in 2 years. My husband and I had plans to travel and spend 3 months each year in a different spot. He passed away unexpectedly and now my plans have changed. I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions for nice places to go (travel/rent) for older singles. I don't mind "hanging out" with my couples friends, but I sometimes feel like the 5th wheel! Posted by brownk53 I know what you mean about feeling like a fifth wheel - I am recently divorced, and my couple friends are polite, but it is clearly not the same. I share your question about the older singles destinations. |

Good for you vegaspeach!![]() In Response to Re: What are your retirement plans?: I retired 3 years ago. Gave up my little condo, sold off my stuff and moved in with my daughter and her family , at their request. It has been the best thing I ever did. The first two years I traveled a good bit spent 6 weeks with each of my other children and my BFF, on the East Coast. This past year, I did not travel as my daughter, a mother of 3 forfilled a dream of hers to donate a kidney to a needy stranger. After 6 months of rigerous testing, she did just that. I now work a part time job, assist with house chores, taking the teens to their activities, and enjoy a wonderful relationship with my daughter and the best son in law I cold ever have. It has been great. I have my own room, TV, bath and have found this to be ideal. I come and go as I please, as do they but for the most part we are together. I'm sure it ain't for everyone, but it has worked great for us. And yes, I do know how very fortunate I am. Posted by vegaspeach |

I think the retirement plans can be very different for men and women. And, if you plan for years to retire together, and then find yourself living alone, it can be especially difficult. Planning , though, is essential for women. Women Face Tough Challenges in Retirement Is retirement easier for men? |
