Smokey mountain area.  Preferably, NC side.  My wife and I both love it!

Hi. My name is Ron. We are planning now to retire to NC also. We have heard SC and VA are both better for retirees. Can you validate that? We want to live on a lake and GASTON looks very inviting and you can live in either NC or VA. We also love th Asheville area-it truly is one of our favorite spots in the US. Look forward to your response.

I'm in the progress of buying some property in New Bern, NC.  It's a beautiful area, but if anyone has any info (pros and cons) regarding the area and state, please let me know,.

Either Wyoming or Alaska. Wyoming has alot of wide open spaces, lots of Mountains and not so many people. I like the coast of Alaska, around Sitka. You have the ocean, bay, mountains

We are planning to retire to Maine.  From the time our children were little we camped there at Mt. Desert Island and loved the 'pure air', the almost constant aroma of pines AND the less hurried way of life compared to our area of New Jersey.
Now, my  son and family live there after promotions in jobs or whatever so that gives us more incentive to move to Maine.  Almost forgot to mention that real estate taxes are much lower as is the price of houses.  I know 'some' things are more expensive but those that are less more than make up for the 'things' that cost more.

Northern SF Bay area in California is where I've always been and it's beautiful except for, traffic, crowds, expense. Oregon and Washington nice. There is a place in my dreams where I would love to live, if you know it please let me in. On a lake (no ski jjets or speed boats) just small outboards for fishing. Big enough lake to sail, 18 foot or less, but still considered small. Evergreens are a must but snow is not, (some snow is nice.) Taxes are low and big cities are far. Most of all the lake is my back yard.Smile

I'm really surprised at how rarely New Mexico shows up on the lists of best places live.  I'm glad to see at least two people in this post mentioned it.  The climate here in Albuquerque is perfect, for me at least.  It's sunny about 310 days a year......even the other 55 the sun manages to peek through before or after it rains.  For those of us who hate humidity, it's dry here all year round.......averages about 22% or less on an average day.  There's a nice change of seasons and what little snow we get during the winter melts off within no more than 48 hours.  During the summer, it gets no hotter than any state on the east or west coast and never as hot as places like Phoenix and Las Vegas.  The scenery is breathtaking......among the most beautiful in the United States.  Albuquerque is a very modern city, is quite diverse in its population and is very accepting of people who have been marginalized in society, e.g. GLBTQ.  It has great restaurants of all ethnicities, friendly people, and it takes no more than 20 minutes to get from one end of the city to another.  It has an international airport (the "Sunport") with only two concourses and everything that any other airport would have.  It has something for everyone, both indoor and outdoor types.  It is very appropriately called "The Land of Enchantment."  It enchanted me and many others.  Everyone I know who has moved here loves it and never wants to go anywhere else.  Everyone I know who left came back within three years.  If you ever want to see the power that New Mexico can have over people, watch the movie "Off The Grid" which is based on a true story.   Georgia O'Keefe, the famous American artist, came to New Mexico from her birthplace in Wisconsin and ended up staying here for over 60 years.  Like her, I got hooked and I don't even know how to hold a paintbrush!!  Try it, you'll love it!!!

The state is south of the Mason Dixon line - I leave it unnamed as we want people to come visit, we'll provide you a pleasant vacation, then go home.  But please don't come here to live, "furtherers" moving in are ruining it for the locals.

um, so, where should we we visit?
