In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: SSol-Cal around the Carlsbad/Oceanside area where the season are great... after fifty years there is no snow, freezing rain and scraping windows. Only little rain compared to the six to nine months of the stuff in the two state to the north. Cost are high but if you are ingenious and a coupon person, its not bad. It's going to be a working kind of retirement but its fun. PS. At least the traffic moves here and a dead stop is rare...Think of that when you are stuck on Hwy 26 or 217. Helpful hint... challenge yourself and learn a foreign language like Spanish Posted by rvslick15 How can you afford housing? Compared to North Texas, it is at least double. |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: South Texas. Fruits and vegetables available nearly year-round. Warm weather for my aging muscles. Medicines and dental care south of the border at reasonable prices. Reasonable cost-of-living. Area caters to the retirees. Golf and tennis year-round. Posted by natedegrate WHO would play Goof all year around but the area sounds nice. |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: I moved to a small town in Oregon (from northernCalifornia). The weather is quite similar and I can actually afford to live here. In California the mobil home space rent was $1000 per month and would never end. I'd have had to work til I died. My mortgage and taxes on a nice little Victorian house in town are less than $800 per month. When I pay off the mortgage next year, I'll be able to live on Social Security alone. My 401ks will be for extras or emergencies. That gives me a great sense of relief and satisfaction. The beautiful green hills and rivers aren't too hard to take either. Posted by kglatz I grew up in Northern CA but now live in North Carolina. I am looking at Brookings up to Gold Beach Oregon, for the same reasons that you did. Do you like / love or feel neutral about the move? |

In Response to Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: 1) 10 Best States for Retirement names New Hampshire as the best state for retirement. Which state would you like to retire in, and why? I want to retire to Florida because I just love the sunshine and the ocean or gulf. I love to walk on the beach. I was thinking about Ft. Myers. Now understand I am not going to settle there immediately but I want to know if Ft. Myers or Nables is a good place to retire? Posted by AARPMiller |
