Michigan, specifically Ann Arbor.  Previously listed as one of the best cities for retirees.  I love the change of seasons,  UM football and the many cultural opportunities that area provides.  There's excellent health care and it's 20 minutes from the airport if one wants to travel.  In addition, Michigan up north, has wonderful lakes and natural areas.  I love it here.

Wyoming, Always wanted to live there. Been there and love the area. Lived in California and now live in New Mexico.
I want to live where my neighbors are not living basically on my door step. I love wide open spaces. Hopefully one
of these days I will be able to make it there.

This is exactly what I am trying to figure out.  First, must have Kaiser Medical there.  Second, perfect weather (not hot, cold or humid).  Third, near the coast.  Fourth, no taxes on my teacher's pension.

Sounds like Hawaii to me.  I did see a post yesterday here, or somewhere on AARP, about moving to Hawaii, that was full of great information.  But, I can't find it now!  The individual's name was short and started with a K and ended with an A.  The individual lived on Oahu, outside of Honolulu.

Anyone know where I can find this post?  I would love to print a copy for future reference.

Thanks!

Hello! I am an independent, non-affiliated US citizen from Wisconsin (but living in Chile) working on a research project to better understand the retirement challenges that early stage Baby Boomers are facing.

The goal of my research project is to design better tailor made solutions to help Baby Boomers settle in affordable, activity oriented, and beautiful places.  I truly believe that viable low cost alternatives do exist to help you maximize your upcoming retirement years.

I would be very interested in hearing your retirement dreams, concerns, challenges, and fresh ideas!

Gulf Coast of Florida, south to north, doesn't matter...it's all beautiful.  South FL is warmer in summer & North FL gets colder in winter so you have choices as it is a large state.  There is virtually no air polution, skies and air are fresh & clean, green all year round, flowers and gardens productive as well.  There is no state tax and property taxes are low compared to most other states.  Population is very diverse and there is something for everyone.  Especially attractive to the outdoor types and has many advantages for seniors with choices in over 55 or family neighborhoods, farmers markets, art, theatre, museums and other cultural events.  Medical care is good.  My only complaint is the current governor and misguided priorities of state legislators that need to give more attention and resources into education, job creation, infrastructure and protecting FL environment for the future.

I've lived, or stayed in for at least 6 months 16 different states in the US.  Hawaii always comes to mind.  Lived on Maui and  O'ahu, been to all but Moloka'i and Ni'ihau.  Get away from the bigger towns and life is great.  Cost of living is high, but stress is low, food is good, and the water is warm.
