Colorado is the best -- if you like snow. Not the urban sprawl of Denver but somewhere on the western slope -- Montrose, etc. But, we ended up in E TN. Mountains are in the distance, golf is superb, there are four seasons, and places of our past and of interest are not far away.

Arkansas.........beautiful country, mountains, great fishing in numerous lakes and rivers, good hunting, and reasonable cost of living.  Plus I have children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren living there.

At age 68 we're both retired and this old new Englander - who lived in Texas for a while - is happy to live in Newport, Kentucky, immediately across the River from Cincinnati, Ohio. Newport has the second largest Historic District in the state, and we live in an antique with high ceilings and three floors. The stairs? They keep us active!

There is a real sense of community here, and we know more people here than anywhere else we've lived. Houses are close and neighbors watch out for each other. The community is diverse with all ages and income levels and we're active in the Neighborhood Association and Garden Club. The small yard with our home has an extensive easy care garden with ornamenals and vegetables.

As far as activities we often walk the mile acrtoss a bridge to downtown Cincinnati, and ride our bikes in this bike friendly community with doctors, dentists, a new supermarket, gym, drugstores and other amenities within about a mile from our home. All this gives us enough exercise to help keep us acive and healthy. We would never be put away in a "retirement community" unless we couldn't take care of ourselves.

It's not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. While there are many retired people here, it's not a retirement community.

I plan on moving to southwestern VA.  My only son, daughter-in-law and grandsons are there. ( not with them, near them!  lol!)
Cost of living is  less than New York State and the forecast of  "lake-effect snow" is unheard of !

A couple of years ago we vacationed in Sadona, Arazona.  I fell in love with that place.  It is close to being one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.  I would to retire in Cottonwood, Arazona.  It is about 20 -30 min. from Sadona, and a lot less expensive to live.

Like to know more why TN is a good place to retire?   How is the weather?  How many days of rain and snow received in a year? What are the Taxes, State? Local? Small towns good for retirering and one over 50 still working.  Jobs available?  What kind on Medical Facilities?  Close By? What kind of activities?  How many churches and religions?  Why would Eastern TN be a good place to live?
In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?:
East TN . I say East TN ! Why ? It has the same climate as North Geroga. It stays warmer longer here. North Ga. even get snow and Ice storms when THE EAST TN VALLEY does not. The valley is huge. It is about about 27 miles wide, It is more then 150 miles long. It has a climate more like Atlanta Ga. Don't believe it . I have lived here 65 yrs. I know. It is center of Eastern U.S. and you can be anywhere in Eastern U.S. in about 5 to 7 hr.s It has cheap T.V.A. POWER. It has cheap taxes ,and nice homes and great interstate and rail, and air ports. So you can live like you got more then what you really have in East TN. Only East TN. No other like it anywhere.

Anywhere, except Illinois where I currently live.  Being taxed to death by crooked governors and other politicains, who are making it impossible for us to retire in the state where we were born and raised our family.  May move to Indiana so we can remain close to family.Money mouth

In the email it doesn't mention state so my choices would be Costa Rica, Belize or Dominica.
