In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement? : Sun City Center Fl on the West coast has a gated community and is a very friendly active senior community. We have lived here since we were 55 (now 65) both work part time and hubby plays softball and pickleball in his spare time. I go to the beautiful fitness center every evening. It had 200 different clubs and plenty of transportation. Grocery stores, Walmart, restaurants, etc are all within walking distance. Lots of people use golf carts as their main mode of transport. Posted by grannyj7 Hello, I have been looking on the websites for housing in Fl. and came across Sun City. The areas look great and the property seems to be very reasonable. So in Sept. I will be in that area |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: After living in California for 26 years, we began plotting our Great Escape from California two years ago. We've lived on my retirement since I retired in September, 2009. My wife retired in August and isn't drawing any retirement benefits yet. FYI - 41% of my federal pension is tax free in Oregon. We moved back to Oregon to be near family. We had a custom home built on an acre we purchased. We owe nothing on our homestead except for our annual property taxes. We just got our property tax bill, it's a 1/3 of what we paid in the Bay Area. We have a fantastic view of MT Hood. Life is good! Posted by ntgriz Been in Oregon 14 years.. its beautiful, they don't tax social security but they certainly tax all of your federal pension, property taxes are high and local bonds and taxes are increasing every year... For these reasons, Oregon is Not a Tax friendly place to retire.... |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: Any info on East Tennessee would be very helful to us Strongly considering retirement there!! Posted by 49erangel I lived in East Tennessee(Soddy Daisy) back in the early 90's and I absolutely loved it there. Any snow was gone by early afternoon. 1 to 2 "ice storms a year but other than that I loved it there! I moved because I got married and we moved to Southern Florida. People of Tennessee are very nice and welcomeing. If I wasn't disabled right now...I would move back there by myself. |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: The state is south of the Mason Dixon line - I leave it unnamed as we want people to come visit, we'll provide you a pleasant vacation, then go home. But please don't come here to live, "furtherers" moving in are ruining it for the locals. Posted by jeb258 Could it be West by God virginia best state there is?or maybe North Carolina |
