I would like to be "MOBIL" and move about and Oregon Coast would be my HOT SPOT - ya know 2-3 months here 3 months there,,,

Handy,   I appreciate your post and agree in part. I have said for a few years I would love to be mobile like that but I think I would want maybe a year here, then a year somewhere new and so on. For me I don't think 3 or 4 months would be enough.

Right where I am in Vallejo, California!  In spite of AARP's nasty article about us, Vallejo has lovely neighborhoods with very affordable housing, a wonderful Farmers Market year round, and is only a short drive or ferry ride to San Francisco, Napa, Sonoma, Berkeley, Sacramento, Pt. Reyes, the North Coast, Lake Tahoe, and the Oakland International Airport.  Come to Vallejo!

I'd like to have a small RV to travel in, however.  I have worked all of my life, and now at 60, anticipate working for the rest of my life.  Vacations weren't important while I was busy trying to make my fortune, but when that career suddenly ended, I realized that the only place I had ever really gone was to work.  My next goal is a Class B to hit the road!

I like small city Oregon on the West Side of the Cascade Mountains.  The Pacific is 65 miles to the west and the Mountains with snow and ski areas are only about 70 to the east.  The great desert is about 135 miles to the east.  There is such a diversity and both summer and winter are fairly mild - with few violent natural disasters to reckon with in our home area.

SW Florida.  The diversity of wildlife there is amazing.  Iguanas, alligators, birds of all types, manatees, dolphins, all there for the looking.  I'm 64 and live in Oklahoma.  Last year we had temperatures ranging from -21 to 115 degrees, wind, 17 inches of snow, yuck!  I hate to go outside when it' below 50 anymore,  Give me a warm climate, thank you.

I also live in Oklahoma now and I am originally from here. The thought of retiring here is depressing indeed! My dream place is either Albuquerque or Santa Fe. I am looking forward to less humidity, less of the redneck attitude, and less animal abuse and neglect which seems to be prevalent.

Living in Maine is the best anyone could have experienced.  It has the beauty of many trees, that change in the seasons.  They are beautiful even in the winter with the new covered snow and glistens after the rains in the winter.  Of course, fall is a great time to enjoy the wonderful painted trees that God has given us to enjoy.  We also have the beauty of spring, when the buds of the trees spring out with a fresh start.  That is how we feel after the winter ends.  Then we have good ol' summer with the smiling faces of  many flowers.  They make one smile in themselves and one  feels joyous with the brightness of the summer sun shining on.  In our area we have a more relaxed and laid back attitude toward life.  It is the way life should be.  Enjoying what we have.  We have lived here for sixty-five years, so far.

Where would you go if you were a single woman, early 60's with no family to speak of ?  I would like a sense of community, and activity, but also a sense of privacy.  Am active, and a biker (have three motorcycles).  I also am a registered yoga instructor.  I have everything I need in the city where I live, but it is so hard to meet people or to go out and have a social life because it is so spread out that you end up driving all day and all evening.  There is no public transportation to speak of, and it is not the world's prettiest city.  I have lived here 32 years, but most of my friends are an hour's drive from me, in all directions.  I would like things to be more in easy reach.  I put two years worth of miles on my car in less than 6 months.  There just is not a sense of local community here.  I could move to a 50+ apartments here, but everyone there appears to be so much older than I am.  I have no health issues yet that would require that I do that.  I live in a suburb where there mainly are families with children, not people my age or in my situation.  Help !!!

I'm thinking that Charleston, SC environs would be great.  The challenge is leaving the grandkids, 6 & 7, back in NJ. Any comments on the grandchild dilemma?

If your grandchildren are like most, they will eventually move on with their lives and leave you. I am not sure how old you are, but visiting both ways becomes an excititng thing for both parties and you seem to spend more quality time together because you aren't always there. I have a daughter and 3 grands in NJ, a son and 2 grands in Pa and a daughter and 2 grands here in Fl, but 3 1/2 hours away.  When I lived in NJ I only saw the older grands when they weren't busy with friends or activities, now when I am coming ( about twice a year for about 10 days) they make sure they spend all their free time with me.

I love the warm/hot weather. I don't even like the A/C most of the time. The sun is comforting, I can wear light clothing and swim to my hearts content.
Florida is a nice place for this but their is one thing that is a serious defect in this state. Even though Florida is called the Retiring State, it does not have the needed medical care needed for the people who are getting up in age. It is still backwards and the seniors in healthcare come last.
I live in Florida now at the early age of 59 retired and will check out if other warm states are better off for healthcare.
