In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: Any info on East Tennessee would be very helful to us Strongly considering retirement there!! Posted by 49erangel I wouldn't live in Eastern Tenn because of the weather. They seem to always have something going on. Either rain, thunder and lightening or tornadoes. They seem to have more tornadoes there than we do here in NC. |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: New Mexico in either ABQ or Santa Fe. I lived there before, beautiful people, very friendly, beautiful country, progressive attitudes. Can drive forever with out a great deal of traffic, less expensive to live then in California. Always sorry I had to leave. Posted by carann I am considering ABQ but would like to know about the cost-of-living there. Can anyone help me about that? |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: [QUOTE]Minnesota. The beauty of the state, the quality of life, cost of living and acces to health care are draws that outweigh the couple of months of cold. Most of the year ranges from nice to gorgeous. Many think of it as a frozen tundra and that is just not true. . Posted by jyfasey[/QUO A "couple of months of cold." You have to be kidding! How many years have you lived in Minnesota? I've lived in Minnesota for the past 51 years and winter/cold on the average lasts 4 months. This past winter is the only one I remember being mild. |

This is my first post to the AARP forums as a retired person. Since I have lived in Texas since 1977, I'm sort of partial to retiring in the Republic of Texas (currently known as the state of Texas). There's a lot to choose from in Texas from sub-tropical Brownsville to "freeze-your-tail-off" winters in Amarillo. And they all enjoy no state income tax. Yeah Texas! Add to that affordable living and that tops my list for retirement. But stay away from Houston or Dallas (unless you need to be close to major medical care facilities). The crime in the Texas cities is climbing out of sight. If you like hurricanes, you can choose the Gulf Coast. I like the water, but I don't like hurricane evacuations, so I chose a place on the lake. http://aarp.us/KEsoQa |

In Response to Re: Which state would you most like to live in during retirement?: Washington. It's a beautiful state with some vibrant big cities, lots of smaller cities, is on the Pacific Coast, and has the beautiful waterways and coastline of the Puget Sound. I agree. Don't forget the islands, ferries, a good airport and water. People tell us they have not seen so much green color all year around. In eastern Washington, there is wine, wine, wine and lots of sun to go with it. Hiking, boating, biking, skiing...anything you want to do outside. |
