In Response to Retirement Planning Professional: I would like to talk to a paid professional about my retirement situation. I have specific questions about tax brackets, paying off a mortgage, withdrawing money from retirement funds (to name a few). What type of professional should I look for? A tax lawyer, a CPA, a financial planner? I don't want a salesman. I need an advisor who can objectively evaluate my assets and make predictions about future withdrawal & spending down and when to do it. Any suggestions? Posted by 2yc8138 You are looking for a "fee-only" based financial advisor - he does not sell you anything nor does he make commission off of anything, rather you pay him for his advisory services only. They'll give you a fixed price up front for their services, regardless of the product they recommend. You won't have to worry about conflict of interest. Their success will depend on your good word of mouth and how well they did by you. To find a good one, go to the National Association of Personal Financial Advisers website, NAPFA.org. |
