I am an AARP member and also an advocate of hiring retirees and semi-retirees. The slightly more "senior" candidate has a lot of offer an employer including flexibility in their avaialbility, a wealth of knowledge and experience, reliability and dedication. I personally hire retail sales and marketing representatives that represent large companies like HP, T-Mobile and Nokia. I hire without discrimination as I know any person regardless of age, sex, race, religion etc. can be an amazing employee, but there are downsides to only hiring younger generation employees.
What I have found over the last 6 years is that the retirees and semi-retirees many times end up being our best hires. In our hiring situations, the retiree purely must have a desire and aptitude to learn about technology and be good with people. This is the same requirement for anyone we hire.
What should I do to get hired?
I will follow up with more tips and advice soon on what to ask in an interview and the STAR method for behavioral interviewing.

|I like your style. You ought to create a DVD for employers so that they will not be afraid of hiring retirees and older workers.|
