Thats because the younger, college group still lives with mom &/or dad and will work for much less than those of us who have the life experience and expect to be paid a living wage. In Response to Too old for the job: Caucasian-Over 40 - No college degree - 30 years of Sales / Customer Service I have had several interviews for jobs that I am over qualified for but I don't get the job. Employers always seem to select younger and college educated with little or no experience. Maybe I should try to color my hair and see what happens. Posted by dlness32 |

I hope I can help. I have a blog on aarp and on blogger for people seeking work in midlife. There are industries more open to mature employees. Please either stop by my blog here or at: http://workinglater.blogspot.com I had to find a job at 47 for the first time in 18 years! That was 2004 and let me tell you--it was a humbling experience. Because I was an HR executive with hundreds of HR contacts and friends in my town I thought it would be easy. Boy was I wrong. Check out the blog, comment, visit. I hope to hear from you. Brenda |

Since you have some much sa;es experience, have you given the thought to working for home in the sales industry? Posted by dlness32 It's tough in this economy and it's going to get even tougher unfortunately. Have you considered working for yourself? You have a lot of sales experience and there's probably a great way to leverage that experience and make as much money as you want to make. You may want to explore your options as a business owner. It sounds more involved than it is really. The tax benefits and the income potential of a home business will combine in order for you to maximize the return on your investment. There are some great opportunities that will allow you to make money right away. "Out of the box" is what someone referred to them. You don't need to create a product or service. Just follow the training that is provided. And it doesn't matter if you're over 50. As a matter of fact, older people tend to do better with one business in particular. Let me know if you would like more information. |
