There are a lot of adaptor kits available at places like Walmart that have a variety of outlet adaptors (UK, Europe, ASIA, AUST/NZ, etc.).  Take only the ones you need like the UK and Europe pieces, if that is where you are going.  Almost all cruise ships and major river cruise boats in Europe use the North American standard.  Most GPS systems, iPods, etc. have specialized adaptor kits to recharge them as well.  Most hotels, B&B's etc. have hair driers supplied in the room or at the desk as well as adaptors.  Ask me for more travel tips as needed.. Be aware the in Europe the voltage is generally 220/240 V 50 Hz (N. America it's 110/120 V 60 Hz). Be sure the electrical device you want to use can run on both 120V and 240V other wise you'll need a transformer to change the voltage. Plug adaptors only adapt the plug they do not change the voltage. Plug adapters come in both the grounded (i.e. 3 prong) and un-grounded versions. Plug adapters cost $4-7. Transformers cost $20-50

If you device has a label the says something like this: Input AC 120V 60 Hz  50 W you'll need a transformer with a capacity of at least 50 Watts.

If your device has a label the says something like this: Input AC 100-240V 50-60 Hz  50 W all you'll need is a plug adaptor.

A transformer will converts the European 220/240 volts to 110/120 volts so that American appliances will operate on European Current. Watch that the power rating (in watts) exceeds the rating of all appliances you expect to plug in at one time.

A plug adapter attaches between the American two-pronged plug and a specific European socket. The result is that the American appliance will be connected to European 220/240v 50 cycle electrical power.
