you are so right about that! i've never had a better flight experience than with lufthansa (especially on the rare first class flight), though i understand Singapore Air (no personal experience, sadly) along with a couple others rates as highly. i am always looking for the most comfortable way to travel and am now considering giving the rails a try. there are beautiful sights to see on enticing excursions (both escorted and unescorted) offered by Amtrak throughout the US and Canada. roomette train accommodations combined with hotel stays could be a good bet on a long trip across country. any input/interest out there? i'm a 62 year old widow who enjoys traveling to nearly anywhere and have found single travel can be just as interesting and rewarding as travelling with friends. when alone, one tends to strike up, as well as invite, more conversation with other single travellers. additionally, lone travellers hesitate to approach a group travelling together lest they are intruding. most of my travelling was planned and arranged by me. from the carolinas to the bahamas, europe, south africa, south america and more. i'm not big on group tours simply because i like to be free to do things at my own pace and scout out locals points of interest. just returned from a short stay in athens, greece, followed by a cruise from there to venice, and another 9 days in a venetian apartment. no red umbrellas, 7 a.m. departures, stuffy buses. it was a wonderful trip, however, i did have friends and relatives join me at times. currently, i am forced to slow down a bit because of leg problems, but would be interested in hearing from anyone regarding train travel they've either already enjoyed or would be interested in. sorry to have blathered on for so long. travel talk sets me off! ![]() lolly Response to Re: Single Senior Travel: In Response to Single Senior Travel : Travel with Lufthansa, the world's best organized airline! In Response to Re: Single Senior Travel: Hi, I have tried from time to time to start forums for single senior travelers to get to know one another. Many people said thay wanted that. I went and found forum space and built a place for members to come in and post and get to know one another. To no avail. I was in there every day and not many ever posted. So it defeated the purpose when no one shows up. I have another cruise related forum. We have been together for many years now and most us have met one another. We are all good friends. Most are not single but I am. I enjoy going to that forum every day to socialize with them. We have met from time to time for dinners around Florida. Lots of fun and a great group of people there. You would be welcome there. Message me for info. OceanGoingGal Posted by OceanGoingGal I will be coming to Florida by myself in January. I would like to find someone to cruise with me in mid-January and/or people with whom I can bicycle, line dance, and socialize in Florida. How do I message you "OceanGoingGal"? Pat B

so glad I ran into this site. And I am so happy to see others wanting to travel and meet new friends with no strings attached. And yes, Vegas has always been on my wish list. So who knows, I may give it a try. In Response to Single Senior Travel:Widowed senior wants to travel but not sure how to find a group of seniors in the Las Vegas, NV are to travel with. In Response to Re: Single Senior Travel: You should try Elder Hostel....it is now called Road Scholar. I have done two by myself. A few women on these trips met each other on one of the trips and continued to travel together. Posted by sleak13 I tried Road Scholar for a 18 day trip to Great Britain and was extremely disappointed in the lodging. As a single, I paid the single supplement and was relegated to horrible rooms that were little more than a closet. Will never again travel with them. I've done several trips on my own as a single traveler and have not had any problems. |
