I have made the decision to finally take a cruise. I am a single female over 50 and will be traveling alone. I'm not a fan of kids, would love a balcony and like to gamble. Those are the most important attributes I would be looking for. The question is, which cruise line would be best for me and at an economical price?

Most every ship has a casino and now most every one is majority balcony. Much depends on how "formal" you want to be, some lines are more casual than others. If you don't want a lot of kids around, avoid traveling during school break times and over the summer.  Early fall or right after the winter holidays are great times to travel without tons of kids, but remember too that cruise lines all have childcare facilities so the "rug rats" aren't always running around the decks.
Decide where you want to go and probably talk with a travel agent to find a line which fits your lifestyle best. I've sailed on four different lines, each has advantages and disadvantages but I've found one particular line which is great for me. That doesn't mean it would be for you however. I'm an "older" single woman so I know where you're coming from on that.
I'm hesitant to recommend one particular cruise line, but you might want to check out NCL and Princess, both are a combination of casual/formal, affordable, not generally a lot of youngsters, and with a variety of dining/entertainment facilities.  You can contact me directly if you wish to.  And no, I'm not a travel agent. Smile
