The Cape May Christian Admiral Hotel, a piece of history, is remembered by many, and the people who visited and worked there talk about an era gone by:

Each time I visit Italy, I am convinced that I have seen the best there is to see.  But the Isle Of Capri really took my breath away.  My husband was raised in Rome, but had never visited the rest of his home country so we took our two children to celebrate our 25th anniversary.  We visited Venice, Capri, Florence and of course Rome.  We stayed in Rome with his brother and took the whole family on our tours.  In Capri we were amazed at the Blue Grotto, a cave that you must enter by boat from the harbor that is infiltrated with an eerie but beautiful blue light.  Truly awesome.

Four of us headed north, from Minnesota, in October. The first night was at my sister's Monastery in Crookston, the second was aboard the Canadian Via Rail, heading west, waking to the Alberta foothills of the Rockies. Renting a car, we went a few miles out of rustic Jasper, to a beautiful, serene setting of Lake Patricia, staying at a condo resort, where the rutting Elks bugled at night and trampled the flowers in the courtyard. Herds of wild mountain goats stopped traffic for food treats.
It was then a week of hiking great trails in the spectacular Rockies, soaking in the natural hotsprings, riding a breath-taking aerial tram,  riding a snowcoach up a glacier that melted water frozen before mankind brought in polution, enjoying wonderful meals, served up by always friendly folks, and playing fun card games till bedtime.
That trip became the most memorable, when shortly after, the most athletic, medication-free, man in our foursome, died suddenly one morning after his ritual workout at his home nearby.
One learns to relish every experience, especially simple pleasures and those that friends provide just by being with us.

"Stay-cattion"   What about lodging in your own town as a tourist?  Check out all the places to go - make a plan. Maybe use public transportation to tour your City.  TSample a cafe you never go to.  Simple solution to raising cost of gas and perhaps a chance to see all those places you meant to visit but just never took the time.

I just returned from Italy and I still can't believe how wonderful it was.  I expected to be impressed but was totally amazed by the beauty and grandeur of the natural   and man made wonders.  All of our plans worked perfectly, the weather was wonderful the entire visit (8 days in November) , our hotels were affordable and very nice and the Italian people were lovely. It was the perfect vacation.

In 1990, I spent a month in Milano (Milan), staying with my former sig other, a dear friend now, and he is a native Italian.  Being unemployed, I had no money to spend and just walked the city every single day while he was working.  We did a one day trip to Florence and I also took myself on the train to Lago Maggiore.

I am not Italian.  Am of Irish/English descent.  Now I understand Italian Americans more.  I understand their natural acceptance of putting effort into making their homes' landscapes not only beautiful, but, more important, warm and human.  I understand the love of well made clothing.  I think that Italian culture is less about materialism than about making an effort towards aesthetics and grace and I like that attitude.  I am not materialistic and think that we Americans confuse money with beauty and aesthetics.   You don't have to have lots of money to appreciate beauty.

Banff, Alberta Canada definitely tops the list--magnificent beauty surrounds you---hope I get to back again someday. Years ago went to Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio--Wonderful hiking around "old man's cave"--Took so many gorgeous photographs there--canyons, cliffs, waterfalls, forests. And favorite Beach destination is Santa Rosa Beach in Florida.  Water is multiple shade of blue, sand is clean and white and beaches aren't crowded. Wish I could travel more!

I agree....Banff, Alberta Canada is definitely one of the most beautiful spots on earth.  Someone once said about this spot...if God doesn't live there, then it has to be in his back yard....

One of my favorite memorable spots was a hike up to Lemhi Pass on the border between Idaho and Montana.
This place has historical significance in that Lewis and Clark passed through here on their journey finding the Northwest Passage.   At the top of Lemhi Pass, they were forced to accept the fact there were many mountain ranges yet to cross.

There have been many over the years but the most memorable was 1991 and our trip to Los Mochis, Sinaloa in Mexico. It was as if a magic spell overcame me and from that initial trip, there were others to Mexico that led to our retirement decision in 2007 to move to Mexico fulltime. We now reside on the northshore of Lake Chapala that National Geographic calls the second best climate in the world. To date we have explored 20 of the 31 Mexican states and each offers its own unique culture and scenery and the best vacation spots.
