In Response to Re: Most memorable vacation spots: I just returned from Italy and I still can't believe how wonderful it was. I expected to be impressed but was totally amazed by the beauty and grandeur of the natural and man made wonders. All of our plans worked perfectly, the weather was wonderful the entire visit (8 days in November) , our hotels were affordable and very nice and the Italian people were lovely. It was the perfect vacation. Posted by 223121 In 1990, I spent a month in Milano (Milan), staying with my former sig other, a dear friend now, and he is a native Italian. Being unemployed, I had no money to spend and just walked the city every single day while he was working. We did a one day trip to Florence and I also took myself on the train to Lago Maggiore. I am not Italian. Am of Irish/English descent. Now I understand Italian Americans more. I understand their natural acceptance of putting effort into making their homes' landscapes not only beautiful, but, more important, warm and human. I understand the love of well made clothing. I think that Italian culture is less about materialism than about making an effort towards aesthetics and grace and I like that attitude. I am not materialistic and think that we Americans confuse money with beauty and aesthetics. You don't have to have lots of money to appreciate beauty. |

In Response to Most memorable vacation spots: Banff, Alberta Canada definitely tops the list--magnificent beauty surrounds you---hope I get to back again someday. Years ago went to Hocking Hills State Park in Ohio--Wonderful hiking around "old man's cave"--Took so many gorgeous photographs there--canyons, cliffs, waterfalls, forests. And favorite Beach destination is Santa Rosa Beach in Florida. Water is multiple shade of blue, sand is clean and white and beaches aren't crowded. Wish I could travel more! Posted by dujoan I agree....Banff, Alberta Canada is definitely one of the most beautiful spots on earth. Someone once said about this spot...if God doesn't live there, then it has to be in his back yard....
