In Response to like camping?: [QUOTE]do you like being in the mountains? do you like to go camping? want to talk camping and perhaps share a story? Posted by wendy5555[/QUOTE Well Wendy we meet again. For twenty five years I spent at least 66% of my vacation time camping in the Ozarks, The Smokies and of course the Rockies. I haven't tried it since my body and finally a car wreck decided that I'd had all the fun one person should have. Boy do I have a lot of stories though. It sounds like we really may be kindred spirits. |

In Response to Re: like camping?: My husband and I loved camping. We camped in the New England mts. close to home and camped our way driving around the US several times. On those trips we were gone 1 or 2 months at a time. Our dogs always went everywhere with us. We used every kind of camping shelter: tent, travel trailer, motorhome, or pickup camper. We camped or traveled in every continental US state. I can tell some good stories too. How I miss that life! I tragically lost him in 2009, so sadly, that life is over. I turned 60 last month, and now my computer is my life. I would be happy to chat about camping with anyone here. When growing up my parents would take us camping all over the united states. One story that I will never forget is when we were camping at yellowstone and the camp ranger came around and told all of us not to leave any food out because of the bears. Well one night I got something out of the cooler and guess what I did??? I left the bacon out. In the middle of the night we were in our tent and guess what we heard. That bear destroyed everything we had and more. So the next day after mom and I made jello in the mountain water, we went and bought food . Oh memories.

In Response to like camping?: do you like being in the mountains? do you like to go camping? want to talk camping and perhaps share a story? Posted by wendy5555 I like camping. Last major camping trip was to Mt. Washington a couple of years ago. ![]() Next on my camping agenda is to camp on the beach at Galveston Island, or on the beach at Padre Island National Park. Of course the motorcycle stays home when camping on the beach, but at Mt. Washington, I just had to climb the mountain on my Harley. What a great adventure! ![]() The problem is that I've recently joined the ranks of the "Medicare Set" (by age). I find no camping companions in my age group. They all seem to be dead or live in retirement homes. For the last 10 years, all my camping adventures have been solo. Didn't used to be that way. :-( |

Just wanted to make a quick statement/observation about this subject and our age group. I and my dogs are almost 63 and we still go fishing and camping. It would be nice to have human companionship and conversation on some of our outings but to just give it up because of our age or lack of human traveling companion is just down right silly to me and unimaginable. Even though I spend most of my time fishing out one of my dogs from the water as he is floating down stream as he looks back at me and hoping I get the net to him in time, as for the other one, I put my energy just keeping her out of trouble. she loves to visit everyone, especially those that set down food she can steal. I still very much enjoy our adventures and hope I don't have to give up any of it any time soon. Bless you all and have a great day. Lin . |
