In reponse to NYC. We were just AT NYC midtown and no safety problems. If you are going to 9/11 memorial go on line and pay $2/ticket -well worth fee as will save you a long wait list. If you want good food & draft beeer try OHara pub which is a stone's throw from memorail. The American Natrual History is awesome and you can get a wheelchair if needed. The Metropolitian Musuem of art has excellent review but we did not go there as we are close MFA in Bostn. They have a hop on/off bus line. the tours are fun but use of bus limited as it only goes one direction. If interested in battle ship & multipole aircraft the Intrepid Musuem is good. Rcommend getting AAA guide book before hand if you can, I would not recommend driving in NYC (if avoidable) as traffice can be scary and not easy knowing what lane to be also hotels charge a lot to park car. \\ Hope this helps - Sheila Response to Going to NYC May 1-8, 2013: This will be my first trip to NYC. I'm staying in a Midtown (Manhatten) hotel near the Theatre District/Times Square. If you've been to NYC I'd love to hear from you. What was your overall experience? What restaurants/cafes serve "comfort food." Not interested in fusion or things I can't pronounce. Just good American food. What sights do you recommend as "must see?" Do you think Midtown is the safest place in NYC? If not, then where? Thanks in advance for your reply, Cathy Posted by cathylynn |

Thanks in advance for your reply, Cathy Posted by cathylynn I live in New Jersey and go into The City for Broadway plays etc. I used to work there. Here's what I've learned: Watch out for pick pockets! Keep some cash in your pocket for buying things on the street, but leave your wallet deep in your purse or jacket so you won't lose your ID and charge cards. Stay up on the curb when waiting for lights to change, even if the local NYers stand way out in the street. It's not safe. There are now the typical fast food restaurants in NYC, if you call that "comfort food," otherwise diners are your best bet. Theater district restaurants are expensive, but some are just ridiculesly over priced. If you look at the menu and the price is too high, just get up and walk out. |
