A couple of days ago I opened a e-mail from a friend that showed it had a attachment I clicked on the attachment and  a notice said it was scanned and virus free so I clicked download and it showed that it had downloaded...but when I clicked on the attachment then I didn't see anything...I couldn't see the attachment. Was this a fake e-mail and where is the download? Does anyone know what I should do to see what & where is the download? Has this happened to anyone else?    Dee

Hi, if you receive such strange posts from your friends, then you should not open the attachment until after checking by phone call with your friend first.

It is more likely a virus or malware in the attachment that automatically executes when you click on it.  This is hidden by making an innocent file name but if you check the whole length of the file name, then you may see an executable extension at the very end, such as .exe.  Sometimes the file names have innocent extensions in the name so you will stop looking all the way to the end.

Some people figure out how to spoof email addresses to make them appear to be from your friends.  Or, they actually hack your friends' email accounts and send you the file attachment.  Any old excuse can be expected for a ruse, so it is important to stay close with your friends and verify with them before doing anything else with the email.  Delete it after reporting it as SPAM if your friend confirms that it is a fake email.
