There are so many ways that technology can be used to make life better. Assistive technology is available to help victims of ALS get around, and communicate. And, new synthetic voice technology is becoming available and eye-tracking technology is being developed to help replace lost motor skills. There are assistive technologies that provide essential accessibility to computers for those with significant vision, hearing, dexterity, mobility, language and communication. There are programs for individuals to use which will type what they speak, if they cannot use the keyboard for typgin, for instance. Here are some resources for more information: AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association) ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) LDA (Learning Disability Association of America) RESNA (Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America) Do you know of anyone who uses these devices?
