Some of you may have Microsoft Office but many of you may not because of the cost. There are alternative options and the nice part about these option is that they are free. So if you think software is expensive, these are 3 options you might consider instead of Microsoft Office. Though Microsoft Office might be better than the following, a big advantage of the following is they are free. I have worke in the field of IT for over 30 years. Though I am only 66.5 I am not currently working though considering some options, so I tell my wife I am not retired yet since I am still exploring.

The first was one of the major open source codes to give you a good alternative to Office and was originally called Open Office. This one was a major achievement when a goup got together to write this option which is open code. Oracle took some control of it but has passed it onto Apache Software Foundation. Some were not happy about the change under Oracle so broke apart and went to develop another option.

The second package was developed from the previous since some wanted to break away from Oracle. These people wanted more control themselves so started with a base and came up with another alternative. This option includes some features the other does not have.

This option also has some of the openoffice.org elements also. It has been suggested it handles complex spread sheets very well. Considering the name there seems to be a connection with Lotus of the past, but it is not related other than the name.

Thunderbird for email
An item you may be missing is Outlook in the previous options but in that case you can use the following in its place which is Thunderbird by Mozilla. Personally even though I have Outlook on some of my PC's I tend to keep my mail on the websites I use. I do make backups of items I do not want to lose, and have at times sinked my email with my local PC. Yet I also have email on my Smartphone though I only sync all when I want to do that, and I want the online version to be the main source for my email but that is my preferencce.
