In Response to Re: Can Email folders be backed up on a CD?: Are you talking about saving your e-mail? If so create a folder on your computer, best place to save it is in your My Documents. Be sure to remember what you name it. Then open both your Outlook plus open to the folder. Tile the windows and then drag all the emails you want to save into the folder. Do you have a CD/DVD RW drive? If so go to the folder where you saved all your e-mail and right click on it and select Send To and choose you RW drive. Be sure you have inserted a disk in the drive to save them to. Write them to your disk. Click on, trigger or activate image below to enlarge it. Posted by cat0w If you haven't guessed already, I'm not a "blogger?" and this is the first time I have joined a Discussion Group. I'm still trying to figure out the ins-and-outs of the "post, reply to post, etc." navigation that AARP has set up here. Consequently, I ended up posting the same question twice because I didn't think it went through the first time. In fact, I just found your reply to my post but don't know how I did that. Dah! Thank you very much for your response. Much appreciated. I will follow your directions and see what happens. I was told by more than one friend that I could back up documents in Word (which I have succeeeded in doing) but that email in Outlook couldn't be done. I have a lot of information stored in my Outlook folders and I don't want to lose it. |

Posted by oceanmotion oceanmotion: I can't speak for anything other than Office 2003, XP, 2007 and 2010, but I know those can 100% for sure be backed up. I never used Outlook Express (except limited testing) nor Microsoft mail, so I can't say anything for sure about them, but I would think you should be able to. As for Mozilla Thunderbird, I know you can also. If you look at this video, it should answer your question: http://i-really-want-to-know.com/__shared__/files/computers/office/outlook/burning_outlook_mail_to_dvd.zip The video(s) are Quicktime (*.mov) file(s) in ZIP file(s). You will need a *.mov compatiable player. I recommend VLC Player (http://www.videolan.org). The system will automatically delete the file when it is over 7 days old. |

Posted by di52517 Your friends were wrong, JUST AS I THOUGHT, if they were referring to Outlook (on the PC), Windows Live, Outlook Express or Thunderbird. As long as stuff is written to the local hard drive, it can be backed up. Just Google: FOR WINDOWS LIVE: windows live mail data location backup FOR OUTLOOK EXPRESS: outlook express mail data location backup You get plenty of examples and step-by-step instructions. ------------ http://i-really-want-to-know.com/__shared__/files/ ------------ 1. The location of my shared files have changed as of 2012_11_19, 2035 hours ET (USA). All files are automatically deleted after they are over 7 days old. 2. All reasonable actions taken to insure that files on the SKYDRIVE are virus, malware, etc free. They were scanned with AVAST before uploaded. 3. Date format of my posts: YYYY_MM_DD (YEAR_MONTH_DAY). 4. Time format for my posts -- 24 hour (non AM/PM). Time conversion: http://www.onlineconversion.com/date_12-24_hour.htm. |
