Where do you meet new men?

I've tried the 12 items or less line at the grocery store.  I've tried online dating with no luck.  I've gone to single's dances, joined online meetup groups, kareoke, gone to the local recreation center, etc.

I really don't know where to meet new men.  The singles dances have changed.  They're all clicks and social groups that won't let let you even sit at their table or even talk to you.  The guys in the group won't ask you to dance because they're afraid the women in the group will get mad.

I work part time and would like to have a social life. Maybe, some input from other singles would help me.  I enjoy almost everything and would love to meet some new men.

Thanks,
LoriCoolSmile

I am in full agreement with your post.  When I was forced to retire (5 yrs before planned, thanks to the Wall Street mess) I made every effort to meet new people (of both sexes) for friendship as well as available men for dating.  Church, Single Dances, anywhere and everywhere.  It seems acquaintances no longer introduce friends to friends that is if one is fortunate enough to have even acquantances in the area where I now live.  So many seem so closely connected, they are not interested in including "newbies" in their  group.  Guys seem totally disinterested in anything other than golf or watching sports on TV.  Guess I am just in a slump this morning; but it does get discouraging.  Even volunteering has not allowed for any interaction with people (computer work at home or where volunteering is done).  Does anyone have any idea?  Would be interested in reading them.  Online meeting is for the birds, I learned already.

Thanks for your reply.  Now I don't feel so alone.  Some suggestions have been to go to the Home Depot to meet new men.  I hate Home Depot.  I'd rather go to the Mall.  Men over 50 aren't interested in dating or women.  I guess that leaves the young guys. Men over 50 are set in their ways.  The ones online act like they're doing you a favor by taking you out.  They know your age, so you're at a disadvantage. Guys our age are looking for 30 year olds.  It's better to meet a man when neither of you are looking, like at a class or event.

The men at the dances don't date.  They just go to the dances.  Don't know why.  Some don't even dance.  If you do have a guy that's interested, he expects to meet you there every week, so he doesn't have to pay to take you out.

Most of the guys I've dated have been younger so.................I guess that's our only alternative.  They treat you better than the older guys.

Thanks again for your reply.

Lori

Anyone ever see "must love dogs"?    great movie about online dating.   boy is that movie all about me trying to meet someone nice.   laughed myself silly thru the whole movie.    have also tried the singles groups, dances, online, etc.  live in sedona,az.   would love to know if there's anyone out there who just wants to be friends first and see where the friendship goes.     haven't met anyone yet who isn't looking to jump into bed first.   whoever you are, wherever you are, you "must love dogs"!

Have any of you ever tried any dating websites? If not, what bothers you about them?

The two best ways to meet someone of interest is by introduction from others who know you or someplace that you enjoy already, like bowling, bookstore animal rescue etc.  Just get involved in something - get the word out that you are interested in companionship- even a girlfriend that you can go places with is a start.
I know of several people using online dating matches and have had a few scary meet ups.

I am new to posting here.   I'm 62 working part time.  I gave up meeting men a long time ago,  it just felt hopeless.   I s this a place to connect with men and women as friends or more.   I live in Massachusetts but could IM anywhere.   I'm heterosexual but I mention women and men because it's always nice to have more friends.  Do I check back here for a response or does it appear as an email?    Happy Thanksgiving all!!!   Beth

Think a few of us are in the same boat, or in the same life span.  I am only 57 and have this problem. Once you are divorced or widowed at our age it seem's that others have been through this and are more cautious about dating someone else. It may lead to more and that could be the part we are all scared of, new commintments after being set in our own way's.  We all must make changes if we want to be with someone if only to date and have fun with. It doesn't have to lead to sex or marriage, just dating mates, fun together . ...Pam in Md.

I have often wondered the same. It seems everyone is wrapped up in their own lives and not looking to meet new people. I am 63 and would love to meet others(male and female) for friendships. Gone are the days when dating was the thing.
