A Thanksgiving story to make you laugh...

Is everybody ready for Thanksgiving? A few years back, we hosted the holiday for 40+ extended family members. At the time, my 91-year-old father - a man who still took daily multi-mile walks and was in command of EVERY aspect of his life - decided he would take charge. This was a man who applied the etiquette of his medical practice to the organizational aspects of Thanksgiving at MY house: His goal was to ensure that HIS food was served ON TIME and HOT, allowing him to be back home and in bed before darkness. He sent me a lengthy letter, hand-written on the back of a 9" by 12" envelope, with instructions such as "Count the kids as they come in the door"; "Try to discourage talking"; and "(With dessert, serve) Sprite or nothing." This link is my account of the fun/craziness of that day...it's likely all of you baby-boomers who recall dealing with those rigid, Depression-era parents can relate. Enjoy! |
