There were many but my dad's most important lesson was "any job worth doing is worth doing right".
I miss him the most when I'm using some of his old tools in my workshop.

My father had many clichés repeated many times while I was growing up.  “Never borrow for wants only needs.” “ A penny saved is a penny earned.” And the one that has meant the most to me. “Believe nothing that you hear, and only half of what you read; until life has given you a reason to believe in it.”

I now realize that I copied the qualities of my Dad. He was loving, kind. He taught me about integrity. Every morning, as a baby, I would join my Dad on our Varanda. He would just look up at the sky and observe the beautiful things in his sight, natural things...he would then pick me up and show me beauty through his eyes. I grew up in the Carribbean, my favorite things are the beach, just sitting and watching water. In essence that sums up... tranquility. My Dad passed away in 2000. I was not there......I was a basket case, until his funeral. It was then that I viewed him and tranquility consumed my soul. I have two siblings......my Sister and I are 10 years apart........my Brother and I are 15 years apart and have the same Birthday. I will never forget Daddy sending me a telegram saying happy birthday sweetheart you have a new baby brother. I was asked to give the "rememberance" at Daddy's "going home"........I never wrote a thing, for he taught me to speak from the heart. I spoke to him from the heart, then I thanked God for placing in such a wonderful adoptive home. I recently discovered that my Daddy and my birth Father are relatives. No one knew this. I met my birth Father when I was a teenager, he was just as grand. Both of my Dads showed me love, integrity, kindness and all the good things in life. On Fathers Day I wish to thank OUR FATHER in HEAVEN for placing me in the core of loving parents.  I also thank OUR FATHER in HEAVEN for taking them out of pain, they died the same year......they deserve peace and of course tranquility.......To my two Dad's.........I love you eternally........to my Father in Heaven.........To you be the Glory.........Debs

An enduring memory is going to the beach with my father when a hurricane was approaching and watching waves crash on the rocks. Neither my mother, my brother, nor my sister was "brave" enough to share this experience.
