In Honor of Father's Day

In Honor of Father's Day

In honor of Father's Day, I thought it would be meaningful to reflect on what our fathers have taught us. Growing up I spent a great deal of time on weekends as his helper on various projects around the house. I remember being with him in his workshop building & fixing things. I always enjoyed learning from him and being able to pick up mechanical concepts. I realize now, as a woman, this instilled in me that there's nothing I can't do. Our most recent project together was replacing a hot water heater. I always treasure the process of working on something with him, as he thoughtfully & deliberately approaches the task at hand. He amazes me--he knows how to do everything! |

In Response to In Honor of Father's Day: My father taught me many things, but the few that stick with me everyday are… Be respectful of others; everyone can have a bad day. He also taught me to be 5 minutes early for everything. It’s okay if others are late but not his kids. He also ensured that all his kids didn’t quit. Always finish what you started and give it your all. It’s unfortunate that he passed away several years ago at the rip age of 83, but he still lives on in each one of his kids. Thank you Dad! |

My dad was very honest and was an extremely hard worker. He loved me unconditionally. I hope that his wonderfully good points have rubbed off on me - at least in some small way. Love you and miss you, Daddy. |

My Dad worked incredably hard during his life. He served our country in two wars, grew up during the Great Depression, survived the 1937 flood of the Ohio river in Louisville. He passed on to me his great work ethic, his faith in God, and that family always comes first. As a Father he did they best that he knew how to do. I love him and I miss him! Thanks, Dad |

The most important thing I learned from my Dad is to live up to your word. If you say you will do something, then do it. No excuses, no backing out if something better comes along' Your word is your honor., don't do anything to harm your honor as it is very difficult to regain once lost! |

My Dad once said something to me about regrets -- that he didn't have any. I was surprised. I was a young teen and already had some -- even about circumstances that had been beyond my control. I quizzed him some more -- what about this? what about that? No, he said. Whatever circumstance you are in, you make the best decision you can with the information you have available, then you will have nothing to regret. I realized then, more than ever before, the choices we each can make about our attitudes and perceptions. And, I saw more and more how my Dad's faith in our God, who is Father-Son-Holy Spirit, helped him learn these life lessons and truly live them. What a legacy! |

My dad was a do-it-yourselfer. He could and did most anything he wanted to do. He taught me to try. He said "you don't know that you can't do something until you at least try it." He was right, I can and do most anything I want to have done by myself. He said "do your best when you work for others, and aim to do what you would want done for you." Then he said "if it pleases you, it is because you did your best." His love was also unconditional - that does not mean that when he was displeased that I would get a pass. I love and miss my father today, and he died 20 years ago. Me - I am 60 yrs. |

My father taught me one important thing that has stayed with me over the years: take care of your car and it will take care of you. It is like a commandmant with me, I get the oil changed when needed, I do checkups when the manual says to do it. I keep cars for a minimum of 10 years. Have passed this advice on to my children and to their children, we all keep our cars in good running order. Thanks, Dad! |

My Father had some very wise words to live by..he knew I was entering the business world & i still remember his words " "Be nice to everyone on the way up because you will also be passing them on the way down" |
