In Response to Mom needs help with yard, house and grocery shopping. Any agency out there in VA that will do this?: My mom is 81 and in good health with the exception her eyes give her problems. She no longer feels comrotable to drive to far so she relies on my nieces. She isn't able to maintain the outside of her home or some of the things that need to be fixed. I live 3 hours away and my sister 15 minutes, yet she can't always be there for her because of her job and all. Do you know if there are agencies that do these things. It is hard to trust individuals out of the paper now adays. Posted by lizzyb97 Ask your sister to start asking around for recommendations of locals. Ask neighbors and other that you know - they may know someone very close by - some churches may have a list too. |

Yes, it's definitely a good idea to talk to the neighbhors for recommendations...and you could also call her local Area Agency on Aging (AAA). Some AAAs have a listing of home maintenance services or may have some ideas where to find one locally. Try the Eldercare Locator at www.eldercare.gov to find her local information. Your Mom's community might also have a listerv where you can solicit suggestions for this type of thing. For transportation, the AAA will be the best resource and you could also try home delivery for groceries (like Gian't Peapod service). |
