In Response to Re: Here Comes the Boomers - Open your pockets real wide: Wow... I had no idea how expensive it could be. My mother's care is only $2300 month, but she is not considered total care. I won't be able to even afford $2300 month, though. And I doubt if our son will be able to afford it, either. My mother qualifies for VA Widow's benefits, and along with her Soc. Security, those two cover it. My husband and I can't afford long term care insurance, so I don't know what the future holds... In Response to Re: Here Comes the Boomers - Open your pockets real wide: When my dad was in assisted living, he paid $6,000/month. Now he is in a nursing home and pays $12,500/month out of his own pocket. In the past 18 months, almost all of the savings he worked so hard for has been wiped out. Yes, us Boomers are going to be a huge burden, but you have to wonder how much of a burden younger generations are already placing on taxpayers with the increase of obesity and all the complications that come with that. Not to mention all of the uneducated pregnant teens, substance abuse by all generations, ever increasing over population of jails..... It's a mess. Posted by Agingdiscoqueen This is an additional post to the one I made to you under your hospice question. Your Dad can have hospice care anywhere - not just in a nursing home. That personal care home that I found for my mother was WONDERFUL and hospice care came there - the care responsibilities were shared by both hospice and the care facility. My mother died peacefully - she ate and drank up until the end, never even a hint of a pressure sore, no pneumonia, and we never even had to give her any of the comfort meds for pain. The caregiver just laid her down after her breakfast one morning for a nap and she just passed. |
