My husband, Blake had his Mitral Valve Repaired in January and he's now feeling better than ever. And I mean ever. Yet, I've been his caregiver for sixteen years as we traveled from his initial arrhythmia through to open heart surgery. A solid marriage can withstand many challenges, but not without help. In coming weeks, I'd like to share some of my own challenges with you. Please come and join in the discussion and share your stories. I want to hear.

A Time and A Place to Heal

Kauai--the Garden Isle--here we come. It's been a tough year. Blake's open-heart surgery in January, except for the remnant dull ached in his chest, is behind us. We can once more look into each others eyes without seeing pain and fear. To celebrate we'll be flying out of Oakland, California on Friday morning and landing in Lihue. A dream ending to a difficult time. Here's a poem that reflects struggle and healing.

Heartfelt

Thirty-seven years

married for better or worse.

Two loving hearts

nestled in a world

of their own creation.

One heart, too big,

stopped,

faulted.

One heart, not big enough.

Lost love.

With offbeat compulsion

she sank.

Losing consciousness

he fell away.

Two hearts in need of surgery.

Could this be it? The conclusion?

What would she do without him?

Where would he go without her?

Life after death.

She prayed,

he prayed

for the same

yet different things.

Soon, a world of prayers.

God heard.

Two hearts—one repaired, one restarted.

Heartfelt recovery.
