In Response to Do You have To Announce Your Presence WhenYou Come Home To Your Own House?: My 78 yr old mother came to live with us in August and let's just say we're still adjusting. One thing she is mad about is when hubby comes home, he doesn't 'announce his presence' and he scares her. Hubby says, rightly so, it is his own house, he shouldn't have to holler out that he is home. How do others handle this kind of thing? Posted by savedforever I think it depends on the elderly person. If they have always been security conscious and scared of somone breaking and entering, it would be courteous to say "I'm home!" while opening the door. My elderly mother is this way and although she lives at an assisted living facility, while I slowly open her door, I say "It's me!". This gives her time to register that she can relax and be happy that I've come! This is probably a small thing your husband could do that would mean a lot to your mother. Just my opinion... |
