Currently, we all pay sales tax on everything we buy .... except for trades done on Wall Street!!!

The Nurses union is proposing a FTT and it makes sense but I see very little discussion of it anywhere.  The following is an excerpt from their web site.  http://www.nationalnursesunited.org/pages/financial-transaction-tax

The United States is hurting. Large banks and other Wall Street firms raided our economy, leaving millions of Americans to suffer. Today, families are homeless. Sick people can’t afford medical care. College students are drowning in debt before graduation.

Millions of the unemployed can’t find jobs, and many have given up. It’s why people are taken to the streets in the Occupy movement in cities across the country. We have a simple idea that can help: Add a sales tax on Wall Street trades of stocks, dividends and other financial transactions. It’s like the sale tax you pay when buying a pair of shoes.

Our proposal is for a small tax of 50 cents on every $100 of Wall Street trades and other transactions. That’s a tax of one-half of one percent but it adds up to big money — up to $350 billion a year.

This proposal makes sense to me ... but I do not hear/see it being discussed and I believe that it should be.  It is actually a way to "tax the rich".  The only concern I have is that the money collected will be used to fund some government boondoggle that should be canceled.  So click on this link, and have a read at their web site.  http://www.nationalnursesunited.org/pages/financial-transaction-tax

Hi Peeka,
I had started a thread in the Taxes Forum some time back, which didn't get any reply's.

The FairTax is a national sales tax that treats every person equally and allows American businesses to thrive, while generating the same tax revenue as the current three-million-word-plus word tax code. Under the FairTax, every person living in the United States pays a sales tax on purchases of new goods and services, excluding necessities due to the prebate. The FairTax rate after necessities is 23% and equal to the lowest current income tax bracket (15%) combined with employee payroll taxes (7.65%), both of which will be eliminated.

Important to note ... the FairTax is the only tax plan currently being proposed that includes the removal of the payroll tax.

Curious? Visit: http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer?pagename=HowFairTaxWorks

I will read more on the FTT, as I don't know very much about it. Thanks.
