One big problem we have is no term limits on congress and the senate. Since the president can only serve 8 years stright, the same limits should be put on congress and the senate. It is no secret that these people have gotten wealthy being in office and most are millionires.
So put term limits on them just like we do the president. Also they should be on Medi-care like the rest of us, NO free medical care as they get right now, Also they should be on Social Security like the rest of us. Not on a private retirement plan which they voted in and we the people pay for. When they leave office and reach the age of full retirement they collect Social Security just like the rest of us.Did you know that if a congressman only serves one term, he is still entitled to the retirement plan. May of you can not even afford health care but congressmen and senators get free health care and we pay for it as well as their retirement. They also vote in their own raises, which means that we the people do not have any say about how much they give themselves. They should only get raises ast election time and it should only be the same amount we get in cost of living, if we do not get it, they do not get it. It is time we the people start runnig our country and not the few fat cats in congress and senate that make deals and also make millions of dollars from deals.
I WANT MY COUNTRY BACK..

I agree with lomont8437. Set a term limit for senators and congressman. Also, why should they have free (paid for by we taxpayers) health care? If they had to depend on social security like us I'm sure they would quit borrowing from the ssi funds and make it more secure! As well, they should not be able to vote on their own pay raises!

In Washington, just because something has failed repeatedly is no reason not to do it again, especially if it protects the interests of the 1 percent.

We had only private accounts and that's why Social Security was necessary.....it wasn't installed because people were rich....
Most Americans faced a future full of economic hardship and uncertainty, and a "poverty-ridden old age," to use FDR's apt description.   Things have deteriorated so the birth to death individuals will need it too maybe even more.

We only had private insurance before MEDICARE  and the insurers didn't want seniors---they were too prone to illness and costly and that's why MEDICARE was established.

We didn't have FEMA we didn't have FDA  or the FAA  at  one time and Americans have benefited greatly from GOVT programs that the right wing today want to get rid of.

When I read about the 1920's .. I  sure don't want to go back there and I don't know why any middle or lower class individuals would want to if they know anything about the suffering back then.  .

We could have term limits, if everyone voted, but most elections only have less than 50% voting. My slogan is "To clean up Politics, vote out the Incubement" and this makes a lot of Polpticans angry. but I believe it is the only way to get the country back. I have worked a few elections and "old-timers" like us do most of the voting. City elections are a joke as less than 20% vote and that is where it starts

I would propose going even further than term limits by requiring Senate and House members to submit a balanced budget within 90 days of their election. Failure to achieve or support a balanced budget within deadline would subject them to automatic recall by their constituents. Secondly, require annual performance reviews by their constituents to include a record of all bills and their voting records. If they fail to remain within budget limitations they would be ineligible for re-election at the end of their first term.  Also, failure to support constituent desires and/or party votes less than 75% on all proposed initiatives would make them ineligible for re-election.

I realize this may seem harsh but the total disregard for the future of Americans by our elected officials is a disgrace and they should be held accountable the same as all citizens of this great country.
