In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans?: In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans? : I agree with "Anybody will be better than Obama". I did not vote for Obama, and did not fall for his rhetoric "Hope and Change". For all those who did vote for Obama .... are you happy with the "change" he has made? Unemployment is at an all time high. Don't blame the way things are today on Bush. Clinton started the problems with the housing market and NAFTA; not Bush. The problem is not Republicans. The problem is Politicians and their greed. The Democrats have been it easy for people to make a living by being on welfare. Where else can you not work, not pay any taxes into the IRS or Social Security, get food stamps, free medicaid, AFDC, housing assistance, utility assistance, gas money and file an income tax return and get $4,000-5,000.00 refund? If we cut all of this welfare fraud we could reduce the national deficit. Posted by SFechner Why unemployment still high? ONE WORD: REPUBLICANS--------------------------------- Are the Bush Tax Cuts the Root of Our Fiscal Problem? By BRUCE BARTLETT Bruce Bartlett held senior policy roles in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush and served on the staffs of Representatives Jack Kemp and Ron Paul. Whether revenue should play any role in deficit reduction is at the root of the fiscal impasse between Congressional Republicans and President Obama. One factor underlying the hard-line Republican position that taxes must not be increased by even $1 is their assertion that the Bush tax cuts played no role in creating our deficit problem. In a previous post, I noted that federal taxes as a share of gross domestic product were at their lowest level in generations. The Congressional Budget Office expects revenue to be just 14.8 percent of G.D.P. this year; the last year it was lower was 1950, when revenue amounted to 14.4 percent of G.D.P. But revenue has been below 15 percent of G.D.P. since 2009, and the last time we had three years in a row when revenue as a share of G.D.P. was that low was 1941 to 1943. Revenue has averaged 18 percent of G.D.P. since 1970 and a little more than that in the postwar era. At a similar stage in previous business cycles, two years past the trough, revenue was considerably higher: 18 percent of G.D.P. in 1977 after the 1973-75 recession; 17.3 percent of G.D.P. in 1984 after the 1981-82 recession, and 17.5 percent of G.D.P. in 1993 after the 1990-91 recession. Revenue was markedly lower, however, at this point after the 2001 recession and was just 16.2 percent of G.D.P. in 2003. The reason, of course, is that taxes were cut in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. It would have been one thing if the Bush tax cuts had at least bought the country a higher rate of economic growth, even temporarily. They did not. Real G.D.P. growth peaked at just 3.6 percent in 2004 before fading rapidly. Even before the crisis hit, real G.D.P. was growing less than 2 percent a year. By contrast, after the 1982 and 1993 tax increases, growth was much more robust. Real G.D.P. rose 7.2 percent in 1984 and continued to rise at more than 3 percent a year for the balance of the 1980s. Real G.D.P. growth was 4.1 percent in 1994 despite widespread predictions by opponents of the 1993 tax increase that it would bring on another recession. Real growth averaged 4 percent for the balance of the 1990s. By contrast, real G.D.P. growth in the nonrecession years of the 2000s averaged just 2.7 percent a year — barely above the postwar average. ---so, even leading pub thinker says pub politicians dead wrong--- -----so, job creators created more jobs after Clinton's small tax increase than they have in the almost 10 years since bush tax cuts started----- THESE ARE FACTS FROM A PUB, DO YOU GET IT? |

Anybody will be better than Obama!! Posted by Argeebee It's hard to argue with someone who only watches Faux news and ignores what happens in Congress for four years. First, President Obama accepted Bush's garbage without blaming anyone. Second, every effort the President has made to improve the economy and job growth was, and YOU know this is true, was stimied every time by Republican filla-buster and obstruiction. Third, the only thing Republican Ta-Baggers offered was NOT job growth, but more job elimination for the middle class, public workers like teachers and firemen, destruction of Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, women health care, education of students, etc. You should also know that the private sector has had job growth for ten straight months, patrially due to the Presiden's Stimulus plan, regardless of what LIES Republican Tea Baggers keep telling about it.You should also know that part of this job growth in the private sector is off-set by Republican efforts to eliminate jobs in the public sector in order to attack union members like teachers, firemen, police, airlines, etc. Again, they are NOT interested in job or economic growth because that can only help Obama and Democrats who actually care about the American people and not just that wonderful and successful 1%. Finally, to say anyone would be better than Obama, the honet thing to say is "any WHITE man", right? |

Posted by papabob I don't watch Fox, nor any other commentator show - I read Kaiser Health News, The Hill, Financial Times, however I think you are very blind if you think that we are doing "just fine" under the Obama administration. I think you are turning a blind eye if you do not think that much of the billion that President Obama has raised in campaign contributions have not come from Wall Street, Insurance Industry, and Big Pharma. I think Obamacare is a joke and it will end up costing us dearly as a nation. I was ill-concieved and poorly planned. Programs that have shown to not be working are just scratched. Medicare is also in real financial trouble and Social Security has to be fixed and the planning should start now. We get few answers from the Administration. All we hear is . . . . Tax the rich; those of higher incomes should pay more . . . . more and more and more - we already are paying more for the same services. The plight of the middle class is from them giving up their own rights of choice. They let others decide their fate - be that big government, their employers or union. It seems they want others to do for them - give me health insurance, give me a retirement, give me, give me, give me. Wonder what would happen if tomorrow we said, we will pay you everything that we pay for you and you distribute it in a manner that is best for you. Do you really think that they would pay their income taxes directly, pay their payroll taxes, pay into and manage their retirement, put aside money for possible unemployment, or pay into an insurance fund in case they become injured on the job or a disability fund - short ter/long term - if they develop a condition that would halt their earnings ability. Personal responsibility has gone out the window and we seem to be stepping from the arms of our parents into the arms of BIG government. We cannot afford to continue along this path as a nation. |

Anybody will be better than Obama!! Posted by Argeebee There is no question that Obama has failed to clean up the mess, at least as fast as everyone would like but the fact remains that this mess was made by Bush. Two unpaid wars and stuffing the pockets of his rich friends at the same time...that will run up the deficit quickly. Yes, the debt has gone up tremendously during the Obama years to stave off a depression. If you have studied the last depression, you will know that cutting government spending in the middle of a depression (or great recession) is exactly not what to do. If Obama had not spent those monies to save the banking industry, the auto industry and public employment in general, we woud be in a depression today...ask any informed economist conservative or liberal. |
