Actually there is a graph showing the unemployment rate both in the Bush years and then the Obama years. It is called the bikini graph. You're in for a pleasant surprise. http://thepoliticalcarnival.net/2011/04/01/the-bikini-graph-is-back/ In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans?: In Response to Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans? : You say that if the Republicans take over our country we are in for a real hard time. What about what Obama has put us through? Unemployment is the worst it's been in years and our allies are starting to turn against us. He blames everything on Bush. Sometime, he has to take responsibility for his own failures. Anybody will be better than Obama!! Posted by Argeebee |

In Response to Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans?: Although I don't profess to be connected to any political party or religion, I really feel they are both cult like. I do know that if the present crop of Republicans are able to take over our government we the lowly citizens (99%ters) are in for a real hard time for the next 4 years. All I can attribute my beliefs on is what I hear coming out ot the mouths of the Republicans that are in office at this time, it appears they have no use for the 99%ters and only want more for their bosses ... the 1%ters. Posted by RellisSmith pubs, whether those running for presidential nom or House leaders, look like clowns to me also, if you have money invested in the stock market, it may surprise some that DJIA consistently does much better with Dems in the WH, now why do you suppose that is? if you care about your money and your children, and the great difference in wealth creation whether Dems or pubs in WH, you'll vote Dem

In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans?: In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans? : Posted by nordholm1 Obama got bin laden when bush couldn't...unemployment went up dramatically with the bush 2 financial crisis, which started in 2007, just as it did in 1929 with hoover's stock market crash please note this, google to confirm, if you like: IT'S A MATTER OF COMPETENCE AND THE PATTERN IS CLEAR Stocks Have Actually Done Better Under Democrats Despite the behavior of the market during the last Presidential election, over longer periods of time, the stock market has done significantly better under Democratic administrations. The accompanying chart shows stock returns under each occupant of the White House since the beginning of John Kennedy's presidency. I have calculated the return from the end of the November election, since stocks will react to the policies of the incoming administration when it is elected, not when it takes office. President Party Date Months in Office Annualized Stock Return Kennedy D 11/60-10/63 36 15.15% Johnson D 11/63-10/68 60 10.39% Nixon R 11/68-7/74 69 -1.32% Ford R 8/74-10/76 27 17.21% Carter D 11/76-10/80 48 11.04% Reagan R 11/80-10/88 96 15.18% Bush R 11/88-10/92 48 14.44% Clinton D 11/92-10/00 96 19% Bush, G.W. R 11/00-2/06 63 -0.92%---worst performance of 100 years Average from 1948 to Feb. 2006 Democrat 42.8% 15.26% Republican 57.2% 9.53% Overall 100% 11.95% That calculates into a very great difference in creation of wealth! -- |

Note this is written by senior person in reagan/bush WH, and he gives facts for every point of view---if this doesn't make you want to vote Dem, you're not clear on the facts: job growth very weak during bush 2 years in WH, whereas great growth under Clinton---- Are the Bush Tax Cuts the Root of Our Fiscal Problem? ![]() Bruce Bartlett held senior policy roles in the administrations of Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush and served on the staffs of Representatives Jack Kemp and Ron Paul. Whether revenue should play any role in deficit reduction is at the root of the fiscal impasse between Congressional Republicans and President Obama. One factor underlying the hard-line Republican position that taxes must not be increased by even $1 is their assertion that the Bush tax cuts played no role in creating our deficit problem.
TODAY’S ECONOMISTPerspectives from expert contributors. In a previous post, I noted that federal taxes as a share of gross domestic product were at their lowest level in generations. TheCongressional Budget Office expects revenue to be just 14.8 percent of G.D.P. this year; the last year it was lower was 1950, when revenue amounted to 14.4 percent of G.D.P. But revenue has been below 15 percent of G.D.P. since 2009, and the last time we had three years in a row when revenue as a share of G.D.P. was that low was 1941 to 1943. Revenue has averaged 18 percent of G.D.P. since 1970 and a little more than that in the postwar era. At a similar stage in previous business cycles, two years past the trough, revenue was considerably higher: 18 percent of G.D.P. in 1977 after the 1973-75 recession; 17.3 percent of G.D.P. in 1984 after the 1981-82 recession, and 17.5 percent of G.D.P. in 1993 after the 1990-91 recession. Revenue was markedly lower, however, at this point after the 2001 recession and was just 16.2 percent of G.D.P. in 2003. The reason, of course, is that taxes were cut in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2006. a higher rate of economic growth, even temporarily. They did not. Real G.D.P. growth peaked at just 3.6 percent in 2004 before fading rapidly. Even before the crisis hit, real G.D.P. was growing less than 2 percent a year. By contrast, after the 1982 and 1993 tax increases, growth was much more robust. Real G.D.P. rose 7.2 percent in 1984 and continued to rise at more than 3 percent a year for the balance of the 1980s. Real G.D.P. growth was 4.1 percent in 1994despite widespread predictions by opponents of the 1993 tax increase that it would bring on another recession. Real growth averaged 4 percent for the balance of the 1990s. By contrast, real G.D.P. growth in the nonrecession years of the 2000s averaged just 2.7 percent a year — barely above the postwar average. ---so, even leading pub thinker says pub politicians dead wrong--- -----so, job creators created more jobs after Clinton's small tax increase than they have in the almost 10 years since bush tax cuts started----- THESE ARE FACTS FROM A PUB, DO YOU GET IT? ![]() |

Posted by Argeebee This recession did start with Bush, and the reason it hasn't improved as fast as everyone thinks is because of the Republicans NO TAXES FOR THE RICH. The previous poster was right Trickle down does not work. We need to raise taxes, and put money in to the infestructure. I will definitly vote straight Democrat, they have always been for the lower and middle class. We need to start taking care of our country and stop the wars. |

In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans?: In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? If Bush had been the winner in these past three years, do you really believe that our economy would be better? I don't think so. At least we are down to one war. And it is going to take quite a few years before the economy starts to grow. whether a Republican or a Democrat becomes President. But please,. as a Republican of over 40 years. Please, not a Tea Party, person. please |

In Response to Re: Who should be in the White House? Democrats or Republicans?: As a historian who is not also a lobbyist, I welcome the hard fought debate of the candidates for 2012 on all levels of government. But one thing remains clear and that is that Republicans of virtually every stripe continue down the same old tried (and failed) road of trickle down economics which has resulted in 1 of 5 children living in poverty in this country and 99 per cent of us controlling less of the economy than the infamous one per cent which continues to balk at paying their fair share. What strikes me as so sad is that so many of us gray haired constituents depend upon Medicare and other social programs including infrastructure, yet we fall for the lie of the Tea Party which argues for less government. We abhor war yet those same Republicans want to establish beach heads all over the world to defend our shores and change the social structures of foreign societies as they have attempted with ours, gay marriage, marijuana, abortion rights, prayer, establishment of state religion (Christianity of course) and a slew of other infringements on individual freedom. They want their undiminished Medicare and Social Security benefits but they are against health care guarantees for their fellow Americans. Is this GRAY POWER OR GRAY AVARICE (GREED)? What happened to that Greatest Generation? It is certainly gone forever in this debate. Posted by psfrankj EXACTLY psfrank !!! What you see, over and over again, as the Democrats hold out for what’s good for the middle class, what’s good for the people in need, and the Republicans constantly hold out for something that will make the rich get richer. Whether it’s the oil companies, billionaires, or somebody else. And this only happens when the Republicans control the House. You know, in your lifetime and in my lifetime, going all the way back to Eisenhower, three-quarters of the time there has been a Republican president, the Democrats have controlled the House. And not once have the Democrats tried to pull this [government shutdown] stunt. And now we’ve seen this with Clinton and seen this with Obama, and we’re going to see it every time there’s a Democratic president and the Republicans control the House. This is now their favorite stunt. The threat to shut down the government, and to throw the poor people and old people and sick people into the street.” |
