I'm not an insider , but I cant imagine that happening.Response to SAVE OUR POSTAL HOME DELIVERY SERVICE: AS WE AGE MANY OF US DO NOT DRIVE SO WE NEED HOME DELIVERY AND CONGRESS WANTS TO SAVE $BY STOPPING HOME DELIVERY AND i HAVE NOT HEARD FROM aarp ON THIS TOPIC AND CONGRESS SHOULD HEAR FROM US LOUDLY Posted by dina85 |

How much would you pay for that home delivery? The USPS is suppose to be financially self-sufficient but thus far still has government ties especially in health care (insurance) benefits for their employees and retirees. Should we cut them loose from government ties altogether? Wonder how much postage would go up if that ever happens? |

Gail, Its from the Washington Post dated 3/24/11 written by Lisa Rein. Those 105,000 jobs were lost through attrition, retirement and lay offs.n Response to Re: SAVE OUR POSTAL HOME DELIVERY SERVICE: In Response to SAVE OUR POSTAL HOME DELIVERY SERVICE : Don't know where you are getting such info - the U.S. Post Master General has submitted a plan to eliminate Saturday Delivery and to reduce the work force and processing centers some more - but nothing is final as of now. In Response to Re: SAVE OUR POSTAL HOME DELIVERY SERVICE: Gail, Its from the Washington Post dated 3/24/11 written by Lisa Rein. Those 105,000 jobs were lost through attrition, retirement and lay offs.n Response to Re: SAVE OUR POSTAL HOME DELIVERY SERVICE : Posted by mandm84 Here is a more current update: NY Times: 05/09/2012 - Postal Service Holds Back on Closings "Some of the smallest rural post offices earned an average of $15,000 annually, but cost $114,000 to operate, the Postal Service said. . . . . Daily losses of $36 million have been piling up like last week’s junk mail, and the Postal Service is headed for projected losses of about $21 billion a year by 2016. Visits to the post office have dropped 27 percent since 2005, according to the agency. and the latest update (the rest of the story from above) Federal Times: 08/24/2012 Regulators give OK to plan to cut hours at 13,000 post offices ". . . . the Postal Service intends to eliminate about 12,500 of 21,000 full-time postmaster positions. Many of those jobs will become part-time, with predicted labor savings of more than a half-billion dollars annually." Still got a long way to go to stop the bleeding. Again, I ask, should they be totally independent of the government? How much would you be willing to pay for postage if they were independent? |
