Could you tell me than why the 1% are getting richer and no jobs are being created? Is it because maybe they are taking their jobs overseas where they can hire foreigners for pennies an hour rather pay an Amrican a fair wage? In Response to Re: Save Medicare & Social Security Now!: I respectfully disagree with you. The "super-rich fat cats" are the ones who provide jobs that fund Social Security and Medicare. I do want my voice heard but it will be promoting the idea that more money for corporations and wealthly people result in more and better jobs which in turn results in more money coming into the federal coffers. It benefits Social Security, Medicare, and the good old IRS. If you want to save government programs, start by supporting a decrease in the federal government in staffing numbers, benefits, and pay. In Response to Re: Save Medicare & Social Security Now!: I respectfully disagree with you. The "super-rich fat cats" are the ones who provide jobs that fund Social Security and Medicare. Posted by Truffles46 The super rich fat cats DO NOT support Social Security and Medicare when they live off of investment income. When everyone else is capped at 100% in FICA taxes and these FAT CATS are NOT. FYI Let me quote Elizabeth Warren.... who says it best ...... There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own -- nobody. "You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear. You moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for. You hired workers the rest of us paid to educate. You were safe in your factory because of police-forces and fire-forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory -- and hire someone to protect against this -- because of the work the rest of us did. "Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea. God bless -- keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is, you take a hunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along." |

In Response to Re: Save Medicare & Social Security Now!: Did anyone else watch “60 Minutes” on October 30? On it Tom Brokaw, commenting on his concern of a lack of shared national purpose, referred to a recent AARP ad which stated: “So, Washington, before you even think about cutting my Medicare and Social Security benefits, here’s a number you should remember: 50 million. We are 50 million seniors who earned our benefits. You’ll be hearing from us, today and on election day.” Brokaw said it would have been much more appropriate for AARP to have said…“Look, this is a crisis in our lives. We are the beneficiaries of all the hard work before us. We know that change is coming. We’re here to help you with that change, but there are members of our group who really do need all this help. There are other members who can afford to pay more or are willing to defer their retirement, or whatever …..” He thought that the implied message of “I’ve got mine, to heck with the rest of you” was the wrong message and I agree. Brokaw continued… “But to put the marker down that way, saying ‘I’ve got mine, to heck with the rest of you’ I ithink that’s just the wrong message.” What has happened to our country and to our senior citizens? Shouldn’t we be taking the high ground by teaching the younger people that our country is made up of people willing to help each other out? Don’t we all want to see our country prosper and excel again? We used to be willing to make sacrifices for our country. I don’t see that so much anymore in our general population. We’ve lost our way and it’s up to the elders to help get our country back on track! Yes, I want to keep Medicare and Social Security, but I believe they both need modifications to keep them solvent and reliable. In Response to Save Medicare & Social Security Now!: Something is Happening in downtowns across the Nation. People, normal people are heading out with signs and drums to let the super-rich fat cat bankers and corporations know that they can not loot our national treasury and then blame it on Social entitlements like Medicare and Social Security. This is an opportunity is history. Thousands of people are Occupying Wall St. in New York City and the movement is spreading across the country to so far 80 U.S. cities. If you want your voice heard. If you want your grievances met. Act Now! Join the Occupy movement. If Not You, Then Who? If Not Now, Then When? Posted by Colecummings1 I hope you will read my post under taxes and credit. Politicians show take notice. People are getting very frustrated and they don't feel they are being heard. Including me. goofygrandma |
