Horror Stories: Mitt Romney's Shameful Record with Mormon WomenAs Mitt Romney tries to redraw himself as a moderate in the final days of his Etch-A-Sketch candidacy, some troubling stories from his career as a Mormon leader outside of Boston can't be erased. In this excerpt from an investigative report for Metro Silicon Valley, award-winning journalist Geoffrey Dunn chronicles Romney's treatment of Mormon women while he served as a bishop and "stake president" in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Massachusetts. In Response to ROMNEY HIGH PRIEST IN THE MORMON CHURCH: Romney's family tree contains six polygamous men with forty-one wives. Mitt Romney's family became wealthy when they sued Mexico after using it as a safe haven to flee polygamy laws. tucsoncitizen.com/hispanic-politico/2012/10/17/mitt-romneys-family-became-w... The Portrait that emerges is that Mitt became active in the church around 1977 and is not only a bishop in the LDS church but today is a High Priest of the highest echelon (the “order of Melchizedek”) within that religion . Women began proposing changes that would include them more in the life of the church.... like letting women speak after men in church to putting baby changing tables in men’s bathrooms . Ann Romney was not considered to be sympathetic to the agitation of liberal women ...she was invited to social events sponsored by Exponent II but did not attend. She was, in the words of one member, understood to be “not that kind of woman Mormons do not have paid full-time clergy and only Members in good standing take turns serving in leadership roles performing ecclesiastical duties on top of career and family responsibilities. But a dichotomy exists within the Mormon Church, which holds that one is either in or out; there is little or no tolerance for those, like so-called cafeteria Catholics, who pick and choose what doctrines to follow and that's an important message. Mormon doctrine—including many concepts, such as the belief that Jesus will rule from Missouri in his Second Coming. To some church members Romney was the product of a hidebound, patriarchal Mormon culture, inflexible and insensitive in delicate situations and dismissive of those who didn’t share his perspective. Women began proposing changes that would include them more in the life of the church. In the end, the group came up with some 70 suggestions—from letting women speak after men in church to putting changing tables for babies in men’s bathrooms but Ann Romney was not considered to be sympathetic to the agitation of liberal women within the stake. She was invited to social events sponsored by Exponent II but did not attend. She was, in the words of one member, understood to be “not that kind of woman.” (reference Vanity Fair) Posted by JANMB Mitt Romney’s father, George Romney, was public aid recipient as child after family fled Mexico George Romney’s family fled from Mexico in 1912 to escape a revolution there, and benefited from a $100,000 fund established by Congress to help refugees who had lost their homes and most of their belongings. There you go again, turn the focus away from who Romney really is and attack someone else. Face it even Republicans dont like Romney, but since he has all the $$$$ and friends in high places, they will keep quiet. Check out Republican's own Newt Ginrich's video about Romney run during the Republican Primaries at website "whenmittromneycametotown.com " coming from a fellow Republican Response to Re: ROMNEY HIGH PRIEST IN THE MORMON CHURCH: I wonder if you ever bothered to investigate the other Mormon, Senator Harry Reid? Oh excuse me, the only Mormon of interest is Mitt Romney. Posted by Labrat64 |

In Response to Re: ROMNEY HIGH PRIEST IN THE MORMON CHURCH: So we have a Mormon vs. a muslim! We know you hate Mormons, but I haven't seen any Mormon terrorists. Posted by Labrat64 President Obama has been very open about his Christian faith since moving into the public spotlight. In fact, his past attendance at the Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, with its controversial minister, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, itself became a heated point of political discussion during the 2008 presidential campaign. Still, just 34% of Americans say Obama is a Christian when asked what his religion is. Forty-four percent say they don't know his religion, while 11% -- mostly Republicans and independents -- say he is a Muslim. |
