In Response to ARE ROBOTS HURTING JOB GROWTH ?: SUBJECT : 60 Minutes on CBS News: Are robots hurting job growth? - Technological advances, especially robotics , are revolutionizing the workplace ....... Technology--automation---and globalization has changed the career opportunities in the USA . We have too big a population for the number of good- middle class jobs and I'm surprised it hasn't been addressed more than it has. My opinion, we can't be adding millions of people every decade and we can't get rid of birth control, Planned Parenthood, and still believe we won't become a third-world country. We haven't even stopped legal immigration. This program was on 60 minutes last night and if you watched the Golden Globes or football. instead ... maybe you can catch it on-line. ( I hope congress saw it ) It's food for thought. Posted by JANMB As technology advances, it's true that a good number of jobs will be replaced by robots or robot-like systems. Look at how long it takes to call a company when you have to go through a few minutes of an automated voice asking for directions. However, I doubt that the factories in China have high-tech equipment. The problem is big business and its search for cheap labor. It will replace qualified workers as they're searching for cheap labor as seen in call centers in India and other countries. The Chinese are working in poor conditions for a few cents an hour with no regulations. This seems to be the direction for the future. If they can't outsource a job, they'll just bring in cheap labor from other countries.
