In Response to Republicans Will Try To Cut Our Social Security and Medicare Benefits Next: In two months get ready for the fight of our lives to protect our Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid, because the Republicans are coming with an axe. We cant afford to sit back and do nothing, unless you can afford cuts in your Social Security check and increases in your healthcare costs We have to contact our representatives and demand that they protect and preserve the benefits we have already paid for and need to survive with dignity. Organizations like NCPSSM ( National Commitee to preserve Social Security and Medicare), AARP, USACTION are fighting in our corner as well. Posted by mandm84 After the recent display...there is no doubt in my mind the CUTS that DC will want to make is on soc security and medicare. The democrats aren't blameless.....some of them will go along with the republicans so we must keep on our REPs backs....they want to be re-elected. The GOP is force-feeding the Pentagon with money for weapons the Pentagon didn't want. .....just so they can justify cuts for our social benefits. To clarify...it's not the social benefits that congress now in DC get or those long retired..... A few families being fabulously wealthy contributing less in taxes is not democracy.....AND not sharing the profits made by millions of people in this bountiful country is not democracy. "The rich need an abundant supply of the poor " (Voltaire in the 1700's ) true then as now.

Posted by JANMB Yes, they want to keep the "war on terror" going on endlessly, even though we got bin Laden, because it's big $$$ for the military industrial complex. These wars were entered into very quickly on false information, mostly because the $$$ signs were swimming in their heads about making huge profits. The Democrats aren't innocent either as most politicians have some vested interest in keeping money in their pockets. To balance the budget, they have to blame the "entitlements" programs that are being paid into by the people.

Posted by mandm84 This really irritates me with having to protect Medicare which I just got on 4 months ago. I still work part-time, so my taxes are paying for Part A, though the taxes are too low to keep this part going. After that, I'm paying almost $300 a month for Part B and D as well as for a supplemental. If I were paying $300 a month to a private insurance company, it wouldn't be considered an "entitlement". The problem is the high costs which come from everyone trying to make a profit off of health care. Basically, we need a universal health care for all. As for SS, those of us who aren't wealthy are very fearful of privatizing SS. We all saw what happened in 2008 when Wall Street brought about the crash. With many Americans losing good paying jobs in their later years, how are they going to save enough for retirement, especially after the 2008 crash?

In Response to Re: Republicans Will Try To Cut Our Social Security and Medicare Benefits Next: The ignorance of some of the posts shows how much trouble the country is now in with the debt. Most of you blame the republicans, but are unable to list even one item about reduction in social security of the current people that receive month checks. The current administration provides NO spending cuts to reduce the debt. Posted by lschlueter IF there is so much worry about DEBT where was all the complaining from the public at that time ....I mean when congress & GWBush started two wars, a drug bill that helped pharma and the two Bush tax breaks to the wealthiest UNFUNDED I might add ??? Don't be fooled cause ....of course...., we're not "broke. Big corporations and the wealthiest Americans are making more money - and a higher percentage of America's total income - than ever. The fact is that if millionaires and billionaires paid taxes at the same rate they did during the Reagan Administration - and the income they earn clipping coupons on investments were taxed at the same rates as people who work for a living - that would go a long way to eliminating the deficit. Don’t we eventually have to match spending and revenue? Yes, we do. But the decision about how to do that isn’t about accounting. It’s about fundamental values that republicans don't seem to have a clue about these days.

To the contrary Ischlueter, End the needless Wars, End Tax breaks, no - bid contracts and loopholes for the insanely rich Corporations. Start rebuilding OUR Infrastructure, not Iraq's and bring our soldier's home. That's just to name a few spending cuts !!!
