When Bill Clinton left office he left this country in a surplus. After a deficit caused by Republicans George H. W. and Ronald Reagan. Clinton did it by not cutting these badly needed programs but he taxed the rich and didn't get the U.S. in wars which billions of dollars went to foreign countries. Someone said in one of these post "If you don't study history you are doomed to repeat it" and this holds true by not doing what Clinton did. If you want another revolution it won't be the tea arty starting it. It will be the people who are in desperate need of these programs and who look at Big Oil making record profits every year without paying taxes or lowering gasoline prices. n Response to Re: Republican Agenda: I think cutting the deficit and someday (soon) balancing the budget is a good thing. I do think seniors down the road need choice in their health care finance choice. As our economy improves - and it seems the numbers indicate it right now - then I would expect that all charitable programs will have less need. Whatever commodity supplier we tax, the tax will be filtered down to the end buyer. Posted by GailL1 |

Well it's a good thing those poor oil companies are not being taxed because what would gas be if they were to send the taxes on to the people. 20 DOLLARS A GALLON?? n Response to Re: Republican Agenda: When Bill Clinton left office he left this country in a surplus. It really is disgusting. Where I live a lot of people are fisherman who catch shrimp for a living. Some burn 150 to 200 gallons of fuel or more a day. The price of fuel keeps on going up but the price of shrimp dropped due to the BP oil spill in the Gulf. They can't pass their increase in the price of fuel to the consumer. What will these poor people do? n Response to Re: Republican Agenda: When Bill Clinton left office he left this country in a surplus. After a deficit caused by Republicans George H. In Response to Republican Agenda: The blueprint, crafted by Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-Wis., showcases a deficit-cutting plan for revamping Medicare and slicing everything from food stamps, education to transportation while rejecting President Barack Obama's call to raise taxes on Big Oil that are raising gas prices to all time highs and their other rich friends is now being pushed through the House. This is what's going to happen as soon as a Republican President is elected regardless who he is and what he says he stands for. Posted by creppelrm First of all if "big oil were taxed as obama plans, it would result in $4B. This is enough to run the government for 19 hours. Consider the billions thrown away on Solyndra and all the other "Green" companies that went belly up. If oil were to be taxed the cost would just be passed on in the form of higher gasoline and heating oil costs. Also, we want to encourage drilling in the US to make us energy independent, disallowing the costs involved in drilling in marginal areas would have the opposite effect. |

In Response to Re: Republican Agenda: GOP establishment is disgusting- I, registered Republican -agree! The 3 candidates the establishment pushes are for starting new wars at the taxpayer cost. Since the usa is almost broke they may want seniors to be "patriots" and sacrifice their benefits... However, THIS IS NOT RON PAUL'S AGENDA (that's why the establishment fights him, because he is, and always was, thinking foremost about American people, not party!) he will do his best never to hurt Americans while balancing the budget - so his biggest cuts will be overseas: ending costly wars and closing military bases ABROAD. Many Democrats vote for him as they are disappointed with Obama Posted by Astra2012 I dont' know any democrats that are disappointed with OBAMA. What the disappointment pends on is when the Democrats regained tenuous control of the 110th Congress in 2007, filibusters by the new Republican minority skyrocketed. Ron Paul had ONE GOOD IDEA and that was about the military. Otherwise....he was all for CUTS to those things that benefited people in distress like FEMA--- He would eliminate departments of education, energy, homeland security, and emergency management. and go back to the small govt of the 13 colonies. He needs to go back to the boondocks where he came from. |

Each year, we Americans account for nearly half of all global military spending , an amount larger than the next 45 nations together spend on their militaries. Because corporations make BIG bucks on the military ....... and like Cheney's Haliburton who skipped to Dubai and set up headquarters to escape paying any taxes at all. Romney has his money stashed in the Caymen Islands made a fortune through investments that often ruined the lives of workers and their families, said this week he thinks he pays about 15% of his income in taxes – that's right, a lower rate than most of us who work for a living. |

Jan, How correct you are. My daughter almost died waiting for a kidney 4 years BEFORE SHE GOT A CADAVER KIDNEY and she was 21 YEARS OLD. I know people who died waiting for a kidney and a lot younger than Cheney. I'm not saying that anyone should be denied but at his age and when I know the difficulty getting a heart is a lot more difficult then a kidney just goes to show what position and money means in this country. As for the Big Oil, the price of oil is going up without taxes being paid and if the rest of their rich friends were taxed maybe the could run the Govt. a little longer than 15 minutes. Sounds like some more Tea Party Propaganda. As for Green energy "NOTHING VENTURED IS NOTHING GAINED". If everyone thinks (like the Republicans) that Oil is going to last forever, HE IS SO WRONG, THAT IS ONE REASON BUT NOT THE ONLY REASON THAT OIL IS GETTING EXPENSIVE BECAUSE IT IS COSTING MORE TO FIND IT IN HARDER PLACES THAN BEFORE. WE ARE RUNNING OUT!!! THAT SIMPLE!! But Republican only think of NOW and Themselves . Response to Re: Republican Agenda: In Response to Re: Republican Agenda : The republicans only want to talk about the deficit, the deficit, the deficit . REMEMBER Republican Speaker John Boehner refused to raise the debt ceiling to secure tax breaks for big oil companies and his billionaire jet-owning friends. It's now clearer than ever that Republicans won't say yes to anything that requires the rich to pay their fair share and would rather see our economy fall into catastrophic default than offend Grover Norquist and the Tea Party fringe by asking billionaires to pay their fair share. Instead they want to cut stuff like FOOD STAMPS that feeds children too ......People who need food stamps cannot even buy toilet paper with them and many goods necessary for survival. ....so they are not living HIGH OFF THE HOG at all. The Republicans today lack a soul....but now that Cheney finally has a million dollar heart financed by WE THE PEOPLE and his FINE SOCIALIST HEALTHCARE ...we'll see if that makes a difference or if he just comes back out in the public as a newer version of the Darth-Vader.
