The Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare") actually creates an entire roster of new benefits, including full coverage for preventative medical care without coinsurance or deductibles, discounts on prescription drugs and the gradual closure of the Part-D "donut hole" that had previously forced retirees to pay thousands of dollars out-of-pocket for medication.       In total so far, 5.2 million Medicare recipients have saved $4 billion on prescription drugs alone because of the dreaded Obamacare legislation. That's $629 per person -- money they would have otherwise had to pay out their own pockets.

While this new RYAN voucher program will not affect seniors who will be dead by that time their middle-aged children and young grandchildren would be scrood out of all of the benefits and protections that seniors are afforded today...essentially taking them back to the pre-New Deal era...and their children and grandkids will not thank them for this...especially when they realize how much the greedy rich gained in tax breaks by granmas and grampas neocon vote.
The republicans ALWAYS wanted to get rid of SS & medicare. They have convinced people today that they should have a "choice" of whether to participate or not. What that amounts to is a devious plot to weaken SS & medicare by underfunding the two benefits so they will fail. ... by letting the ones who think they don't need these benefits ....stop participating. Then if the younger folks who now think they can do better w/o SS & medicare ....do not do better....I guarantee there will be many of those who never think beyond today.

Have I got this right?
  • Medicare is giving us more
  • Medicare is not costing us more - co-pays, deductibles, premiums
  • Millions of baby-boomers going on the Medicare system
  • Billions of money coming out of Medicare for supposed "waste, fraud, and abuse"
  • Medicare is cutting reimbursement rates to medical providers - docs, specialist, hospitals, DME providers, nursing homes
This of course, makes perfect sense (NOT) - I think we are being sold a ponzi scheme.

Romney again lies in his recent ad that says President Obama is cutting $716 billion from Medicare. The NON - Partisan Congressional Budget Office reports President Obama's Plan SAVES $716 billion over 10 years. At least Romney got the amount right.
The Congressional Budget Office says its the Republican Ryan Budget for 2013 that actually CUTS $200 billion from seniors and disabled healthcare coverage. Romney and Ryan have so much billionaire corporate money that they will keep running untruthful lies and hope President Obama runs out of money answering to these lies.
Romney keeps crying WOLF and eventually someone will stop listening. Response to Re: OBAMACARE ---The Affordable Care Act:

Kaiser Health News: 08/17/2012 Decoding The $716 Billion In Medicare Reductions

QUESTION:  Romney and other Republicans over the past two years have criticized President Barack Obama and Democrats for cutting $500 billion from the Medicare program over the next decade as part of the 2010 health care law.  In the past couple of weeks, the number that Romney is using has grown to $716 billion? Which is right?

"Answer: They both are.  The $500 billion figure comes from a March 2010 analysis that estimated the 2010 federal health law’s effects on Medicare spending and was put together by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT). It covered the budget years 2010-2019.

As part of their efforts to repeal the law, congressional Republicans in July asked the two agencies to estimate the impact of a repeal on Medicare.

That July analysis, which covered the years 2013-2022, determined that the health law is expected to reduce Medicare spending by $716 billion.  It is higher than the previous figure because it covers a later time frame that includes greater Medicare spending reductions"

I feel AARP should not be so anxious to sell more medicare supplemetal medicare policies and medicare prescription drug plans by saying Obama will save $716 billion in medicare abuse and fraud.  Will he do that like he said we needed to pass the $700 billions bail out plan to keep unemployment from going over 8%, or when he said his administraton would be transparant and make laws when cspan was present or when he was going to go through spending bills line by line and veto wasteful spending????

I believe the OBAMACARE would benefit people who have above average income and want to retire early (by 65). They can afford to pay the insurance without worry the pre-existing condition.

The OBAMACARE can not help labor intensive small business while the employer can not afford to pay for the insurance and workers are earning enough to be NOT eligible for Medicaid, but NOT enough to buy the insurance.

Overall insurance premier will increase, it seems no doubt about this.

We may need to consider Medical education reform - get more assistant physician and open small clinics to treat generic illness with less office visting fee.

We may also need to limit mal-practice law suit reward to a certain amount so that the doctors can pay less insurance.

Problem you have is that you only believe the voice of republican party  .    The CBO ( Congressional Budget Office)   was created as a nonpartisan agency by the Congressional Budget and Impoundment Control Act of 1974.

So hat exactly does the ACA do to Medicare spending?   ACCORDING TO THE CBO    The ACA trims $428 billion in waste, fraud and abuse. No cuts to benefits, just increased efficiency and fraud protections, and Medicare Advantage payments to private insurance corporations are balanced out to the same levels as Medicare proper. The savings will add another 8-10 years of solvency to Medicare WITHOUT TOUCHING BENEFITS. ACCORDING TO THE CBO.

The stock market can be called a ponzi scheme----insurance can be called  a ponzi scheme ....your argument about that has no merits at all.

The CBO can only score the actual workings of the program as they are presented in the legislation.
I'm talking about the actual workbility of the program based on the human equation - beneficiaries, providers,

The CBO years ago also scored the SRG method of controling Medicare health care cost as a good and cost savings method.  Guess what, congress won't act - they skirt around the reduction of reimbursement rate every year and now are trying to get rid of it all together.

The same is true of the IBAP - they can't raise premiums, they can't change benefits - so what else is there to do to lower cost?  Cut reimbusrsement rates more and more and more.  Plus we already have MEDPAC - we've had it for years; they do their reports and suggestions every year but when it gets on the government side of enactment - something always happens, usually under the political excuse.
