We will join the rest of the civilized world when Industry doesn't run away from it's obligations to help this country when it is down by paying taxes. They sure didn't minds taking advantage of it when times were good. We will join the rest of the industrialized world when people start thinking of their fellow citizens rather than just themselves. We will join the rest of the industrialized world when we stop buying guns to use specifically against our own neighbors. We will join the rest of the industrialized world when industry pays an honest day salary for an honest days work and invest in training and educating our young. We will join the rest of the industrial world when we place education ahead of sports and quit calling sports figures heroes. I could go on but who would listen. n Response to MEDICARE FOR ALL ?? WHEN ???: Today's NEWS. Grandparents who won millions of dollars in a lottery. stated in tears that now their grandson could finally afford to get the medical treatment for a heart condition ....and to the relief of his parents. . A young child who had suffered severe injuries needed a service dog. Charlie Sheen learned of this situation and donated the money for the trained animal which is very expensive. There are millions of untold stories similar to these......and I'm asking you out there....why do people have to do without or beg or hope someone richer will donate money for necessary medical care in this bountiful country. When will the USA join the rest of the industrialized world and have Medicare for ALL. Posted by JANMB |

Posted by JANMB I completely agree with you as lack of universal health care will destroy this country faster than any terrorist. Occasionally, the stories of those affected by lack of insurance leak out into the public, but until people demand it nothing will happen. Or, of course, until it happens to them. The Repubs have the answer to open it to the "free markets" as that will make it more affordable. At work, I've talked with quite a few people who have huge bills from medical care which only adds to their stress of facing a serious illness or accident. Some have depleted their savings and retirement accounts to pay while others just declare bankruptcy. I remember that idiot Hannity telling someone who racked up huge bills to have a "bake sale" or some charity auction. What a fool when he sits there with his millions of $$$ and able to buy his own insurance. It's like the politicians who can easily afford private insurance, yet have it sponsored by the taxpayers. It's nothing but greed on the part of big corporations who will continue to reap in profits. |

Posted by JANMB Sadly we will not afford to take care of people in need any time soon because most Americans are manipulated by corporate media and they are convinced it is in their interest that our country kills people abroad and bombs countries too small to defend themselves (they allowed themselves to believe it is "for our national security (ot smth like that) while it is just to make some rich people richer...) they believe it is good for them to spend THEIR money overseas, or to maintain beaurocrats in Washington, instead of spending it on Americans in need. however, more and more (and esp. young) people rely solely on Internet for their news and corporations do not influence their thinking that much. once they are able to decide the direction of this country the usa will be prosperous again. |

Posted by Astra2012 I'm shocked, astonished and disgusted by the amount of money being spent by the military as most of us have no idea how this has contributed to our debt. Just think how much could be spent for the well-being of American taxpayers if this money, trillions of $$$, had been spent to rescue health care, build up our infrastructure and created jobs here at home. The corporations rule America and the rest of the world. I do believe that young people will wake-up to see that they're going to be nothing more than puppets for corporate America in the future if no one speaks up. Young people need health care, but most are going without insurance or the ability to pay for it while they're racking up huge student loans and lacking the income necessary for living a decent life. I"ve known some who've already racked up huge medical bills or are putting off having children because they can't afford the medical costs. |

Posted by intersan yes, Americans suffer (huge student loans, unemploymant, foreclosures, no health insurance, hard time to support families...) but media (which belong to corporations so use their propaganda) made them (fortunately only those who believe tv) believe they SHOULD spend their money on miliraryzm (drones, bombs) rather than, say, health care at home! As long as media (corporatiions) influence people's thinking nothing will change. Because of Internet they are losing it though. That's why they are trying to censor or limit Internet now |

WHEN ??? : Posted by creppelrm It was disturbing for me to read that the Nora virus for example, was passed around by food-workers who never get any sick days, they need the money so they keep working and pass along their virus to anyone who comes in contact. Then we wonder why we have these epidemics every year. Some people object to immigrants getting healthcare but they come from countries that have parasites that Americans had gotten rid of or they come with conditions like TB. So It's not ALL about being generous to non-Americans. I know someone who was on tour overseas in Germany and got sick. A doctor came to the hotel, the person was transported to the hospital's ER treated, released and there was no-charge. I say WHAT ?? I know of a poor retiree 75 yrs old on medicaid but there is no dermotologist that will take medicaid at least not in her area if any at all. She hopes her primary doctor will remove a possible skin-cancer who doesn't usually do that kind of surgery and so poor people cannot get the same healthcare as someone who has money. There are all kinds of fund-raisers going on in this country cause people are so in debt if they happen to get sick even if they have insurance. We are BETTER THAN THAT !!! . |

Posted by JANMB I've talked with people who are from other countries with universal health care and they're just shocked at our for-profit system here. Very few come to the US for treatment unless it's for some revolutionary form of treatment. I was listening to a radio talk show, Ed Schultz on Progressive radio, who had a caller almost in tears relating her tragic situation. The woman was unemployed, but once had health insurance. She seemed to be in her 50's. She has a tumor in her jaw area that will require 3 surgeries according to a doctor. However, she was told that the cost would be $67,000 but that, without insurance, she'd have to put a down-payment of 75% up front. Without surgery, she will have to let it grow until it kills her. I don't know where she lived, but not everyone has access to a county hospital that treats everyone. I just wish more stories like hers would be making the news on a daily basis. However, our news is filled with nonsense. As for the Repubs, I just get sick seeing the healthy C-PAC guests who are going to speak at a Repub convention. They and their families are so wealthy and well-insured that they'll never have to face such grief. |
