Social Security and Medicare are definately in jeopardy and AARP has to take a stand on these issues above all others. Their most vulnerable members interest are at risk in Washington D.C. and this cannot be taken lightly. This means life or death to scores of not only seniors but disabled citizens and I would not play politics with people's lives. AARP has to start letting thier constituents know who their friends and who the foes are in Washington in order for them to decide how they will vote. AARP cannot sit by and let members who are financially well off and selfish dictate what will happen to these poor souls. If this means losing members so be it and a better one sleeps at night knowing what you are doing is just and right. n Response to It's Time For SENIORS To Get Involved And Stop Voting Against Their Own Best Interests!: For those of you who do not believe that BOTH Social Security AND Medicare are in jeopardy, then you're just not paying attention! We SHOULD be scared! VERY Scared! If many in Congress had their way, they would end both of these "Entitlement" Programs immediately! WHY do you think they call them "ENTITLEMENT" Programs? What do you think it means, when Rick Perry, Ron Paul and Rand Paul say "Social Security is UNCONSTITUTIONAL?" Or when Ron Paul and Rand Paul compare Social Security to "SLAVERY?" With the huge number of "Fringe" candidates now being "elected" to office, If we Seniors do not STOP voting against our own best interests, we will be on our own to deal with both income and medical issues. Think about it, how would you like to be handed a check (VOUCHER) each year, and told to go ahead and get insurance and medical care on your own? We are a HUGE voting block, and unless and until we start USING that voting block to ensure that OUR best interests are protected, then we will get the crappy benefits and government we DESERVE! SENIORS should be forming groups to OCCUPY Congress Right NOW, telling them that we EARNED our Social Security and our Medicare Benefits and that they are NOT "Entitlement Programs!" Don't let anyone tell you, that "No One Is Trying To Take Away Your Social Security and Medicare Benefits" because they are lying to you.....The current Congress would much rather take away OUR benefits, then tax Millionaires and Billionaires another lousy 3.6%! Because, they think "WE" are "Old, Stupid and Lazy!" Well, I may be old, but I sure as heck am NOT Stupid or Lazy! It does not matter that those of us currently collecting benefits "may not" see any changes to our benefits......WE owe it to our children and grandchildren to ensure that Social Security and Medicare will be there for THEM as well! If you think that Future Seniors NOT having Social Security and Medicare will NOT affect their children and grandchildren, then again, you're not paying attention. Who do you think will take care of Seniors, IF there is No Social Security and Medicare in the future? Duh.....Their Children, and grandchildren, of course!!! Not EVERY problem can be solved by "Simply cutting taxes!" Do we have to reduce costs" Absolutely! Do we have to reduce Insurance Fraud? Absolutely! But we also have to STOP using TAX AND SPENDING CUTS as a CURE ALL! By the way, something that Congress NEVER mentions, is that another way to cut costs is to “Ensure that any member of Congress convicted of a crime, does NOT Collect “Lifetime Pension Funds!” We should also look at reducing those HUMONGUOUS Congressional Pension Plans…..Blue Collar Workers/Union Members have had to lose or cut THEIR Pension Programs, it’s time Congress did the Same! Our country is in Crisis, and unless we want to end up like Greece, we need to start having EVERYONE pay their FAIR SHARE, not just the poor, not just seniors, but EVERYONE.....including Millionaires and Billionaires!!! To balance our Country's enormous budget, we need BOTH Spending Cuts and Revenue Increases! Anyone who says any different, FAILED Economics 101, OR is simply trying to get "Re-Elected!" So SENIORS, it's time to GET MAD and get off our butts and get busy fighting and voting for what is in OUR Best Interests! WE SHALL "NOT" GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT! Posted by McGyver68 |
