I think that what AARP wants in there best interest is not in my best interest. Obviously, I am a senior and less obvious is the fact that I have grand children. I am on a fixed income

In Response to Re: My Best Interest Do Not Align with AARP's. : You are kidding, right? Since President Hussein Obama has been in office the congress has NOT passed a budget. Instead they have gone down a road spending and taxing hard working taxpaying Americans into an early grave. They have diminished America's stature in the world and cut the legs out from under our great military. He has single handedly spent more than the last 5 presidents put together and set America on a course to becoming a third rate SOCIALIST country. He is constantly pandering to voting blocks(see the Student loans give away) and taking every opportunity to make a political stance.

NO TAXES have gone up since Obama came to office. Google it, if you doubt.

American stature has been substantially improved by the death of bin laden and other aq leaders, by freedom in Egypt and Libya, and the cooperation of EU leaders and arab leaders.

Clinton gave gw bush a surplus in 2001 and bush gave Obama a trillion dollar deficit in 2009 (google it, all there). It was bush who exploded the debt/deficit by tax cuts to the rich.

In Response to Re: My Best Interest Do Not Align with AARP's.:
Your ad about cutting Medicare and Social Security are bogus, Are you not listening, both parties agree that there has to be some changes made in these programs in order for our children will be able to utilize them. Anyone who is over 40 will never be affected by any change. The changes that will be made will just ensure that it will be available for the next generation. AARP's in Obama's back pocket, and he has allready taken a huge amount of money out of Medicare, he has appointed a panel to decide who gets paid what, and now they want to put our health records on line. The VA was responsible for a lap top being stolen that had thousands of names, SS#'s, addresses, etc on it, that info could have been sold to anyone. Thousands of keypuch operators will be handling our info, can we trust them all. NO! I had to sign a permission slip in order for my husband to be privy to my medical records. We have a right to privacy. And, for your information, there is a law in the Health Care Act that states, starting in 2013, if you sell your home you will have to pay 3.5 percent sales tax. And AARP supports this law, doesn't seem to me they are watching out for seniors. I do not want my dues paying for ad's that scare people and lie about it, I am not renewing. AARP is totally liberal and will probably be a 2nd rate organization in a couple of years if they keep up this crap. The last COLA from SS was under Bush, and it was ove 5%, he probably seen the handwriting on the wall, with Obama taking over. Meanwhile, the congress and senate got large raises. Before you people keep making judgement, study, read and find out exactly what is going on, listen to all sides not just AARP.

This from Politifact.org, a project of the Pulitzer Prize winning St. Petersburg Times: "We've seen and ruled on this e-mail before", (about the 3.8%, not 3.5% real estate tax in the new healthcare law) "but because it continues to bubble up, we thought it would be useful to reiterate our earlier ruling.

Both the chain e-mail and the blog post are deceptive, and here's why:
Instead of being a sales tax on all real estate transactions, the 3.8 percent tax is actually a tax on investment income for the wealthy. It applies only to the investment income of single taxpayers who make more than $200,000 or couples who make more than $250,000. (We looked it up in Section 1402 of the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010, titled "Unearned income Medicare contribution.")
Still, maybe empty-nesters are scared they'll be hit with this tax if they sell their homes for more than $250,000. But that's not a likely scenario for most tax payers, because there's along-standing tax exemption on the profits from home sales.
To be hit with the new tax, you would have to clear more than $250,000 in profit off your home, which means at least $250,000 more than you paid for it. And the ceiling is even higher for a married couple. Married couples are not taxed on the first $500,000 of profit from home sales. Again, that's profit, not the sales price.
When we first reported on this e-mail last year, we rated the chain e-mail's claim "Pants on Fire", because it was written to deceive people into thinking that all home sales would be taxed. That wasn't the case then, and it's still not the case. Only high-earners will have to pay the tax, and then only if profits from the housing sale exceed the legal exemptions from taxes."

Tax the 1% their fair share my friend, they are profiting enormously from this country and from you, although you probably don't realize it. And to quote you from your post: "Before you people keep making judgement, study, read and find out exactly what is going on, listen to all sides"
