I have to question...why is it ok to drink and drive....drink any place you desire. Football Games, Baseball Games, Basketball Game any sporting event and you are lucky to get away from there without vomit down your back, beer on your shoes, to say nothing of your car and life still in tact with so many drunks leaving the parking lots to DRIVE DRUNK  on the highway. By the way, that’s illegal so where are the cops?  They know where to find the drunks. Why is it so socially acceptable to drink but you admit to smoking and you are treated as if you have the plague. I think it is because there are very few who do NOT drink...and to excess.  A person who smokes does not have a driving impairment.  A person who smokes is not constantly trying to get their "friends" to "awe have a cigarette..what are you a baby"..a person who smokes shows up at work on Monday and without a hangover. What companies refuse to hire anyone who DRINKS ALCOHOL?  They don't even ask if you drink...they do not care.  What makes people think THEY are sooo perfect and have the right to govern my life or make me conform to their ways.  Makes no sense to me.  I think, perhaps, it is a CONTROL issue.....as long as they can have that drink wherever they go, that is...if not, well, I will stay at home thank you and have my own booze as I wish.  Of course we know, there are many, many, many watering holes in a one block radius where they can have their after work, after play, after anything drink. Ahh, I deserve that...I have had a hard day. burp. Did I mention the breath on drinkers.  Whew....And the behavior of  a  drunk..jezzz. Oh, and the health issues and oh, oh, oh, how many families are ruined due to that alcoholic   Get off my toes and off my back please.  No one is perfect so don’t interfere with my imperfections when your drinking kills others every day….just get the stats on that from the highway department. Perfect because you do not smoke?  I don’t think so.

AARP...is that true? You do not want the money from smokers?  Seriously?  How about a campaign against drinking. One as invasive as the one against smoking. Oh, I see, too many drinkers on staff?  Just asking.

AARP really had your interest in mind by trying not to name and target the Republicans that are looking to privatize Social Security and cut Medicare.  Don't even tell me that I'm  lying when all you have to do is read the newspaper once and a while.  AARP has been trying to play both sides of the fence and trying to please both liberals and conservatives.  That is hard to do when they know  who really want to cut these programs.   You evidently have enough money that you don't have to worry about either Social Security or health care.  What you are not thinking of is the people who depend on Social Security and Medicare and cuts to either one could be a death sentence.  As I said before the United States spent billions on wars in Iraq and Afganistan but they want to cut these programs so badly needed by our most vulnerable citizens.  This is not fair when this 1% are making record profits and giving themselves fat bonuses.  Even when the economy you are talking about is as bad as you say it is.  Who do you think the Republicans are protecting?  It sure isn't the poor, old or disabled.  As for the grandchildren you are talking about.  You can love them and educate them than they have to control their own destiny.  I hope they take care of their own better than we are.

n Response to My Best Interest Do Not Align with AARP's.:
I think that what AARP wants in there best interest is not in my best interest.  Obviously, I am a senior and less obvious is the fact that I have grand children. I am on a fixed income.  From my personal economics, the rise in gas prices, the drop in housing value, and the unemployment rate effects me greatly.  On an bigger view, his failure to support our small businesses, his not honoring his campaign promises and his inability to lead and consolidate Congress are killing the economy of this great country. II believe your putting Ms. Obama on the cover of your mag means that you support all that his corrupt administration is doing. It also tells me you act more as a PAC than an organization supporting seniors.  This man and his minions, of which AARP is one, could care less about the future of my grandchildren and my social security and medicare benefits. In my view you have sold us out.  Good bye. Not renewing. Oh, and in closing, Ms. Biden is married to a clown.

Home value's decreasing every day, Portfolio going down the drain. Cannot understand why AARP would support senior's losing everything they have worked for. MEMBER SINCE 1999. WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY MEMBERSHIP !!!! Does AARP have any response to what is happening to seniors?????????????

While someone else explained the GOP's rotten position on SS and Medicare.......I feel I need to tell you that the  budget that OBama inherited was prepared by the BUSH ADMINISTRATION that you are most complaining the RESULTS from it about  ?      Are you aware that about 300 deregulations to the environment and to Wall Street when the republicans ran everything that   Greenspan who LONG resisted deregulation said the crisis had shaken his very understanding of how markets work, and agreed regulation is necessary. that financial derivatives should be regulated -- an idea he had long resisted. "    Do you even know the Iraq war that Wolfowicz the Bush advisor said that the Iraqis would welcome us...we would be out in no time and Iraqis would pay for the war while Cheney wore a path to the Pentagon to cherry-pick info to sell the war for Cheney's company Halliburton to profit billions from ?
If you are angry at the blackened oily snowy egrets ...  save some of it for those .republicans who created the mess we have today that the democrats are trying to FIX even though the party of NO to everything doesn't help. .     The GOP does not put PEOPLE FIRST ( unless its the already wealthy).

Obama is trying desperately to swim with both legs being held by the republican congress.   NEVER in history has there been a party, democrat or republican who have done so much to do so little for the good of this country and its' people.   Never have we had a group who are interested only in making their superior, their boss, their leader, the President of the United States fail.   It does not concern them that if the President fails...so does this country.   Never have there been so many who have no facts to back up their putting down the President.   They have nothing on their side.   Nothing good they have done to build a case against President Obama.   They know only hate and fear.   That is what they preach.   If the only place you get your political information is from people like FOX 10 then you will remain ignorant, uninformed, scared and full of hate. I want more in my life than that.   I will vote for more.   I will not vote on the basis of fear, hate and lies.   I will not be lead to slaughter without knowing the turns, pot holes and the EXIT of that road to the pen.   We have a choice but if all we do is close our eyes and ears, listen to only what we grew up believing, never finding out for ourselves, never listening to "the other side" then we will remain in the dark and be only the eco of somebody else with no original thought of our own.   I refuse to be reduced to being a No Body. I listen.   I hear.   I read.   I know Obama is the one to lead us out of what the republicans have created....a road to poverty and despair.   I will vote for President Obama in a heart beat. I hope you will too.

You are kidding, right? Since President Hussein Obama has been in office the congress has NOT passed a budget. Instead they have gone down a road spending and taxing hard working taxpaying Americans into an early grave. They have diminished America's stature in the world and cut the legs out from under our great military. He has single handedly spent more than the last 5 presidents put together and set America on a course to becoming a third rate SOCIALIST country. He is constantly pandering to voting blocks(see the Student loans give away) and taking every opportunity to make a political stance.

You can blame who you want it's a free-country BUT STILL  PAY ATTENTION ....
Republicans talk about job creation, about preserving family farms and defending small businesses, and reforming Medicare and Social Security. But almost without exception, every proposal put forth by GOP lawmakers and presidential candidates is intended to preserve or expand tax privileges for the wealthiest Americans.

"Most Americans got none of the growth of the preceding dozen years," says Joseph Stiglitz, the Nobel Prize-winning economist. "All the gains went to the top percentage points."

The modern GOP has undergone a radical transformation, reorganizing itself around a grotesque proposition: that the wealthy should grow wealthier still, whatever the consequences for the rest of us.       Modern-day Republicans have become, quite simply, the Party of the One Percent – the Party of the Rich.

I will DEFINITELY not vote for Obama. I just like honest people who keep their promises. Tell the truth no matter who listens. Care about American 99%, and are not bought by Wall Street (Obama took 500 millions from WS for his campaign! see? i also read and listen!).

Republicans, Democrats, you all are the same. Two stables picking their horse to race in November. So what that this horse is bought and the puppet, as long as it is R or D.

And of course AARP wants power (coming from the number of members=potential voters), this is normal. Did you think it's a nanny?

AARP is a lobbyist for seniors they aren't CONGRESS.   I just believe YOU-ALL are angry at the WRONG ONES. !!! .

Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare benefits are protected IF the so-called “super committee” fails to reach an agreement.  .  The concern is that a fast-track committee process will deny Americans a voice in the discussion about critical tax, health and retirement issues. Also is a concern about the potential use of a trigger that would arbitrarily cut provider payments under Medicare, which could unfairly shift costs to seniors. More From AARP - CEO A. Barry Rand

Meet the Press
host David Gregory has stood out as a journalist amongst many others who have consistently misinformed the public about the impact of Social Security and other entitlement programs on the deficit which has nothing to do with the deficit.
The truth is that, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Social Security is fully funded until 2052, at which point, assuming no increase in productivity growth rates or dramatic demographic shifts, benefits would need to be reduced by a whopping… 20%

Politicians should be focusing like a laser beam on overhauling the medical system, not wasting time fixing a Social Security system that isnt close to being broken. Of course doing so would involve taking on massively powerful interest groups, ranging from Big Pharma to the AMA . The question is, do they have the guts to do so?

The Republicans feel they just can not allow a government run program that succeeded to stand.    It disproves their held position that government can do nothing well.     They will not be satisfied until they have killed these programs that have served the people so well.     We have seen them try to starve them to death or put incompetents in charge to prove their contention. And they will never stop trying to erase this and other good government programs because they can not stand to be proven wrong."
.
Social Security Is Like a "Milk Cow with 310 Million Tits says Republican---idiot  SIMPSON.... he stands for all of them.

I can not get over the  the distain that the wealthy have for the working class in this nation They say the working  poor are looking for hand outs , when in reality it is the top 1% that not only looks for hand outs but demands them, they see them selves as entitled  , to what they would  say, how about a strong military that there family's do not serve in  to fight wars to protect them and them or there financial dealings but they refuse to pay taxes  and get mad as hell if they are asked to to pay a little more or at least something at all . Witch most do not , I mean give me a brake When these politicians say higher tax hurt business . It that was truly the Case this the wealthiest  in this nation would pack there Bags A move To these nations that have a lower tax rate don't you think . And Do not tell me it is because of patriotism  that they do not leave  because if you do your research you will see just how the tax systems work in these other nations  first few if any loop holes for them to wiggle out  of paying anything  leagelly , so That tells me they stay because the greed is so strong they rather stay in this nation with the highest tax rate for big busines they can get out of paying any thing at all when some of these largest get money back because of loop holes should show any one that these companies are just plain greedy especially when the White House this President  offer a Tax rate to them where If they made 1 dollar  above a million dollars they would have to pay  a 1000   and there paid for political hacks  fight for there entitlement not to pay a dime .The GOP  witch should now stand for even more to day than ever before Geed over People!
wake Up and smell the roses people AARP is   side of the poor in this nation Just like this President ,
Unlike his Moneyness GW BUSH .
And Yes I do hold that man in Distain not because He was born into wealth But because he worships the almighty dollar as seen though his polices like The Bank bai,l out  giving himself and his buddy's  the largest tax break  in history .
and Then still has the Balls to attack the inheritance tax  witch he likes to call the Death Tax . Where He him self will also profit form that . he like to say He is for the small businessman in this nation but when you look at the totality of his policeys you see that he thiks they are childeren unlike his onw  they are not his they are an anoyance to him  he gives them a little to shut them up . but give all of the rest to his children  that are spolided rotten. .
I will say this if this nation stays On this corse that it is on, the one of Corporate greed and controll  this nation wil be no differnet that all of the other grat waelthy nations of the past Like Roman Empire  it will fall from with in!

In Response to My Best Interest Do Not Align with AARP's.:
Obviously you have not been paying attention to what has been going on in this country since 2000.  Gas prices started rising in 2001 in answer to 9/11 and again in 2003 with the psuedo invasion of Iraq.  The housing bubble started going south in 2006 and finally came to a head in 2007 with the financial industry fiasco in 2008.  Guess who was in charge of our government then!  Bush JR. and the Republicans controlled the House and Senate so if you want to blame anybody, blame them.  As a retired military wife, I can tell you that the current President has done more to support the military and its families than any Republican legislator.  Why don't you try reading a little and checking out your facts first before blaming AARP because you didn't pay attention.

So far under Obama, you and your grandchildren are DOING VERY WELL.  Why?  DJIA, the stock market, is up 50% since Obama took office, so investors and others are doing very well.  Google it, if you doubt.

Corruption?  none, and he got bin laden and other aq leaders in less than 3 years when bush couldn't do it in 7.

AARP is doing a great job of looking after seniors' interests.  Take another look.
