I think that what AARP wants in there best interest is not in my best interest.  Obviously, I am a senior and less obvious is the fact that I have grand children. I am on a fixed income.  From my personal economics, the rise in gas prices, the drop in housing value, and the unemployment rate effects me greatly.  On an bigger view, his failure to support our small businesses, his not honoring his campaign promises and his inability to lead and consolidate Congress are killing the economy of this great country.

II believe your putting Ms. Obama on the cover of your mag means that you support all that his corrupt administration is doing. It also tells me you act more as a PAC than an organization supporting seniors.  This man and his minions, of which AARP is one, could care less about the future of my grandchildren and my social security and medicare benefits.

In my view you have sold us out.  Good bye. Not renewing. Oh, and in closing, Ms. Biden is married to a clown.

Don't blame the guy in the WHITE HOUSE or AARP.       The republicans  used  a    fiscal crisis to get what they wanted, by literally holding the US and global economies as hostages.
It was a republican budget by Paul Ryan  that made cuts to social security--medicare--medicaid and veterans benefits.... because as a HOSTAGE .... they didn't want the tax cuts to the rich be taken away....and  wanted the rich to get richer by adding to the extension of the  Bush tax cuts even more. .

The debt ceiling extension is not the only example of this sort of political terrorism.       Republicans were willing to lay off 4,000 Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees, 70,000 private construction workers and let FAA safety inspectors work without pay, in fact, forcing them to pay for their own work-related travel - how prudent is that?     - in order to strong arm some union-busting provisions into the FAA reauthorization.   If  anyone wants to get angry....they need to chose the proper ones to be angry at.

Your situation is fairly typical. The reality is these are NOT normal times--and have not been for many years. We have given TEN CONSECUTIVE YEARS of tax cuts to the wealthy. So, where are the jobs for US workers? The conservative claim that the wealthy were "job creators" is an apparent lie. The real "job creators" are new small businesses--and those are started (and funded) by middle and lower-class workers. They need modest financing (say $25k)--but they need *customers* first so they can expand once they find their niche. I am helping someone with just such a business now--and the hurricanes help his business because his potential customers are the contractors doing the repair work. If he gets going, he will create 5+ totally new jobs--in manufacturing and selling his product--in the US. Not bad.

You need to remember AARP is a large monolith--and you do NOT have a say in it. Historically, members had a board member. But that was eliminated. So, it is a non-profit run by managers with ZERO member input. Hence, the membership is nothing more than a big marketing target. Look at the sources of AARP revenues. The largest source of revenue for AARP is the fees it collects from the various endorsements it issues. And the prices paid for those products include the cost of the endorsements paid by the companies.

Just wanted to let you know!!
I do not want my money going to support the current administration. It is easy to see where AARP is sending it's support.
Home value's decreasing every day, Portfolio going down the drain. Cannot understand why AARP would support senior's losing everything they have worked for.
MEMBER SINCE 1999. WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY MEMBERSHIP !!!! Does AARP have any response to what is happening to seniors?????????????

I agree with the points stated here and have not renewed my membership either but I have to add one more.

I am amoung the 25% of the population that smokes - I have never used any health care accept for routine things or done it in anyone's face, recently I found in a news flyer sent out by them that AARP was very proud of themselves and avocates strongly against smoking and campains to states for raising the cost of taxes on tobacco products in the name of forcing people to quit and doing what is best for them.

This "dirty" money is billions paid into the government and used for purposes they see fit (slush fund) rather then the health care they say smokers are costing others? In other words this money is going to benifit all rather then the ones who are paying it. Case in point NYS used these taxes to balance their severely over debt budget this year in light of raising the taxes and closing down the Indian Reservations sales once and for all.

I can not support any organization that avocates in raising taxes of any kind even if it is in the name of this is what is good for the people. It is also a clear message that AARP does not want smokers as members either.

Just my 2 cents on AARP, I don't expect anyone else to agree my point but I came to realize AARP has more pull in government on views they choose to support and you maybe the next targeted group they go after.

In Response to My Best Interest Do Not Align with AARP's.:

I wholeheartedly agree that AARP does not put America first in their political campaigns.  It is obvious to any reasonable minded person that AARP has become a mouthpiece for left-wing liberals whose policies have done more to ruin this country than many of our enemies in recent history.

I think that what AARP wants in there best interest is not in my best interest.  Obviously, I am a senior and less obvious is the fact that I have grand children. Your ad about cutting Medicare and Social Security are bogus,  Are you not listening, both parties agree that there has to be some changes made in these programs in order for our children will be able to utilize them.  Anyone who is over 40 will never be affected by any change.  The changes that will be made will just ensure that it will be available for the next generation.  AARP's in Obama's back pocket, and he has allready taken a huge amount of money out of Medicare, he has appointed a panel to decide who gets paid what, and now they want to put our health records on line.  The VA was responsible for a lap top being stolen that had thousands of names, SS#'s, addresses, etc on it, that info could have been sold to anyone.  Thousands of keypuch operators will be handling our info, can we trust them all.  NO!   I had to sign a permission slip in order for my husband to be privy to my medical records.  We have a right to privacy.  And, for your information, there is a law in the Health Care Act that states, starting in 2013, if you sell your home you will have to pay 3.5 percent sales tax.  And AARP supports this law, doesn't seem to me they are watching out for seniors.  I do not want my dues paying for ad's that scare people and lie about it, I am not renewing.  AARP is totally liberal and will probably be a 2nd rate organization in a couple of years if they keep up this crap.  The last COLA from SS was under Bush, and it was ove 5%, he probably seen the handwriting on the wall, with Obama taking over.  Meanwhile, the congress and senate got large raises. Before you people keep making judgement, study, read and find out exactly what is going on, listen to all sides not just AARP.

I don't get the LEFT WING LIBERAL retorek at all......especially when

A USATODAY article states that Medicare Advantage premiums fell while enrollment rose this year, despite predictions from opponents of last year's federal health care law that it would drive down enrollment and force up premiums. "On average, Medicare Advantage premiums will go down next year and seniors will enjoy more free benefits and cheaper prescription drugs," .

Medicare Advantage allows seniors to leave traditional Medicare and choose private health insurance plans, including health maintenance organizations or preferred provider organizations

Experts who have studied the proposals now being debated generally say the changes actually aim to strengthen Medicare and improve beneficiaries’ care and access to physicians. The proposals even add new benefits; for example, making preventive measures, such as mammograms and colonoscopies, free to beneficiaries and substantially improving prescription drug coverage. Still, the fears remain.

Obama is trying desperately to swim with both legs being held by the republican congress.  NEVER in history has there been a party, democrat or republican who have done so much to do so little for the good of this country and its' people.  Never have we had a group who are interested only in making their superior, their boss, their leader, the President of the United States fail.  It does not concern them that if the President fails...so does this country.  Never have there been so many who have no facts to back up their putting down the President.  They have nothing on their side.  Nothing good they have done to build a case against President Obama.  They know only hate and fear.  That is what they preach.  If the only place you get your political information is from people like FOX 10 then you will remain ignorant, uninformed, scared and full of hate. I want more in my life than that.  I will vote for more.  I will not vote on the basis of fear, hate and lies.  I will not be lead to slaughter without knowing the turns, pot holes and the EXIT of that road to the pen.  We have a choice but if all we do is close our eyes and ears, listen to only what we grew up believing, never finding out for ourselves, never listening to "the other side" then we will remain in the dark and be only the eco of somebody else with no original thought of our own.  I refuse to be reduced to being a No Body. I listen.  I hear.  I read.  I know Obama is the one to lead us out of what the republicans have created....a road to poverty and despair.  I will vote for President Obama in a heart beat. I hope you will too.
