No, I'm neither Tea-partier nor Obama supporter, but I agree that he is not totally bad. He has good intentions--just is very unexperienced and easily confused- and politics and economy of this time are worst ever! He does the best he can--but his first priority are not Americans but the Republican "machine" which funded his campaign and nominated him. So if you look for the honesty in politics, the only honest politician I know is Ron Paul watch that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fHfdSi-GDo&feature=related |

In Response to Honesty in politics: As a white senior American, and long time member of AARP, I find it incredible when seniors appear so often to be convinced to do things not in their best interest. For instance, it is documented that the majority of tea partiers, (tea-baggers) are in their 40's, 50's, and 60's. They bought into the Rove and Koch Bros ads that they should vote to allow the far-right take over our government in 2010. Results, the worst House of Rep in our history. As a progressive, I pride my-self that getting older does NOT mean getting dumber,so in my opinion if you voted for a tea-party radical in 2010, or worse decided NOT to vote at all, what is happening, or not happening in our Congress, is mostly YOUR fault. For three years, the Republican Tea Party has voted to obstruct EVERYTHING this (black) president has tried to do for this country and its citizens. They didn't want him to embarras them by killing Bin Ladin, because they couldn't. They did NOT want him to promote honest health care for ALL Americans, including seniors, students, and poor Americans. The Republican tea baggers in the house in the past year has not been interested in jobs or economic growth, only to LIE about working for the Ameican people. So lets see, they voted against Planned Parenthood, they voted, five times to deny a womens right to choose, they voted twice to deny gay rights, they are working across the country to deny millions of Americans their voting rights, because if you're a senior, like me, I find it not only repugnant and not affordable to buy a Republican Tea Bagger I.D. just to vote, something I have done for over 50 years, because they want to protect against voter fraud, not just to oppress Democratic votes. (in last presidential election their was actually 9 cases of voter fraud, handled by state AG's, and at same time we had 352 deaths by lighting strike, and 32,294 UFO sightings. Does anybody see a trend here. The ONLY reason to so hate this President, is because he is (horrors) BLACK and actually cares about this country and ALL of it's citizens! As a Republican Tea Partier can you be honest and admit that you hate this President because he's black and not just because he's smarter and more American than you are? Posted by papabob YOU ARE CORRECT ON SO MANY POINTS.... GOOD JOB !! I have NO IDEA why people want to vote the SAME ONES IN that had deregulations that created the crisis that came down on us in 2008.....now they want MORE deregulations.....UNBELIEVABLE to economists too. One point that I'de like to make regards "honesty" is that we have politicians that IGNORE the truth which is that, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, Social Security is fully funded until 2052. AT which point, IF we assume there is no increase in productivity growth rates or dramatic demographic shifts, benefits would need to be reduced by a whopping… 20% and that is FAR FETCHED if we want to believe in our American ingenuity and progress. |

Posted by Astra2012 I DO NOT DOUBT that RON PAUL liberterian views are honest in his belief system ( even though he is SO wrong ) He is Anti-WOMEN's rights to her OWN BODY-------ANTI--FEMA--- ANTI--all govt except for his own SALARY and benefits and the fact he has run and is running for a gov't position for the govt he hates. NO libertarian type of gov't has EVER been successful anywhere in the world.....and the one comes to mind is SOMALIA where the Islamic Militia insurgency is trying to gain control of the country from the present govt.....we could have the anti-govt Militia doing that here too. We could have very LOW taxes....no Social Security...no pesky big govt bureaucrats. Maybe RON PAUL is the VERY extreme who would send us back to the DARK AGES of the working person's twenties and the old folks suffering......but No matter who the Republicans nominate, it will be someone who embraced that agenda in order to win -- vowing to let Wall Street write its own rules, end Medicare as we know it, roll back gay rights, leave the troops in Iraq indefinitely, restrict a woman's right to choose, and gut Social Security to pay for more tax cuts for millionaires and corporations.

Posted by Astra2012 SMEAR CAMPAIGN by the democrats ??? IT's not necessary. Ron Paul has such EXTREME beliefs that even leading republicans laugh and republicans in the media laugh and don't want him. He's got the craziest ideas I ever heard of Ron Paul ---doesn't believe in the separation of church--state. ( Just like the middle east) Ron Paul doesn't believe in ANY income taxes ( I don't know who will pay his salary & benefits is he going to VOLUNTEER ? ) Ron Paul doesn't believe in ANY welfare programs ( no just kill off all ol-people--disabled & children) Ron Paul wants to deregulate businesses ( just like what brought Wall Street DOWN ) Ron Paul wants to end all paper money and revert to a monetary system based on gold, which would make our nation the only government in the world to use the Gold Standard. Why stop there congressman, why not just go all the way back to the barter system like Europe during the dark ages? Ron Paul wants to eliminate the IRS and the income tax. Sounds great right? Well, so does free ice cream and new cars for everyone,.....sorry to say that he appeals to some young folks cause they don't like war either....but the rest of it my goodness gracious.....we'de be going back to the 1900's and starting OVER. |

Posted by JANMB You have to plan for the future in the Trust Fund and that does not happen overnight. From Statistical Data from the Social Security Administration, you can see what the Reagan reform did when it took effect in 1987 and follow it on down to the current economic downturn, the beginning of the baby boomer onslaught and early retirement also because of economic downturn. Here you can see in real numbers what is happening now - With millions of baby boomers on their way to retirement and their SSA benefits, it will a strain on the system. So action SOON has to be taken to build back up the funds that will be needed. You are right about the 2052 date as of the last Trustee Report but remember that can change based on conditions - If collections go down further because of the extension of the reduction in the workers portion of SS payroll tax, it has to affect the Trust Fund in the long run. FINANCIAL DATA FOR THE SOCIAL SECURITY TRUST FUND: SOURCE SSA Medicare is in much worse shape especially the HI (Part A) portion. |

You are absolutely correct. As one person said on this message board "Republicans have been trying to dismantle Social Security and Medicare for years and a lot of seniors just don't see it." Mitt Romney wants to privatize Medicare. He said that if you don't like what you are getting from one provider you can FIRE him and get another. What he doesn't realize is that you wouldn't get any better from the next provider then you did from the one you fired and you still couldn't afford the premiums. Mitt Romney is RICH and doesn't care how these insurance companies are ripping the people off. All he cares about is saving the Govt. money not about the health and welfare of our citizens. As for the people who doesn't like our President, I'm sure they think George W. was better. So much for the way they think. It's time we show a UNITED FRONT because these politicians like to keep us divided as we are now. Voting for any Republican lawmaker is digging a grave for any senior who depends on Social Security or Medicare. One thing these Rebublican lawmakers do well is agree with each other when they are elected and show a UNITED FRONT. n Response to Honesty in politics: As a white senior American, and long time member of AARP, I find it incredible when seniors appear so often to be convinced to do things not in their best interest.
