History May Prove Mr. Romney Wrong

Mr. Romney was attacking President Obama recently because the President wants to stimulate the economy by hiring public sector workers, such as police, firefighters, construction workers and teachers. Mr. Romney says that wont help anything. Turns out President Obama may be onto something ! According to the Dept of Labor website under Bureau of Labor Statistics Starting in 1983 Republican President Ronald Reagan with the bipartisan vote from Congress added 1.8 million government jobs during his time in office. Starting in 2001 Republican President George W. Bush with the bipartisan vote from Congress added 400,000 government jobs. Both times the added jobs helped us out of recession. The difference now of course is that the Republican led House is so far right wing it wont even discuss any possible bill passages that might make the President look successful. Why cant the Republican House leaders reach across the table and shake hands to get our economy rolling. President Ronald Reagan and President George W. Bush both reached across the table and shook hands with the Democratic leaders to make things happen for America. |

I Private sector jobs produce taxpaying employees that contribute to the economy and bring about other jobs through a multiplier effect. Government jobs just serve to drain tax revenues. Besides as the Wisconsin case pointed out, It's possible to not have to lay off government employees if the greedy public service unions are willing to accept benefit packages that are more in line with what the private sector receives. Republican appointed Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood recently agreed with President Obama that we need to pass the Democratic Highway Bill to repair 70,000 bridges and roads that are in bad need of repair. IAnd who would pay for it? If he really wanted to put constuction workers back to work he would approve the Keystone XL pipeline. In my daily life right now, I am on a "need" basis as many others are too. Government needs to work on a need basis for a while to control the debt level. Our Republican Transportation Secretary is the official who came on national television to announce the need for these workers. If we cant trust his thoughts, who can we trust ??? He is a republican and he says our infrastructure is in serious trouble and we need to add jobs NOW !! Transportation Secretary LaHood said we have neglected our infrastructure for too long. Wall Street executives know that the most certain way to boost the share price of their company, and thereby pump up the value of their personal stock options, is to announce that thousands of people are to be laid off, their jobs eliminated or moved abroad. Going back further to prove how correct you are...Mandm84.. Roosevelt's economic reforms with budget cuts did little to solve the problem of massive unemployment. The Brain Trust crafted a bill that would put able-bodied men to work and pay them three square meals and a dollar a day. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) bill sailed through the overwhelmingly Democratic Congress. Soon, thousands of men across America packed up and moved to rural work camps, where they planted trees, fought forest fires, repaired trails, and built flood control levees.

In June, Roosevelt sent Congress his National Industrial Recovery Act, which set fair-practice codes for business and industry, established minimum wages and maximum hours, and gave labor the guaranteed right to bargain collectively. The bill quickly became law. Never again would Roosevelt's New Deal carry so much momentum or have so much bipartisan support. We need to put people to work now.....and the long-term solutions are going to be just that.....long term. We have been coming to this point for a long time where there are too many people and too few good jobs ...somewhat due to automation-technology taking jobs away forever/// even if mfg does come back here companies have more machines and less people. When Santorum was campaiging he was all for growing the population maybe cause he felt guilty about having seven children...... but increasing our population is not a solution but an increased problem. and yet the republicans want to get rid of planned parenthood and birth control ....if that doesn't beat all !!! |
