In Response to Re: Gun Toters Question: I understand there's always gonna be bad folks that get a hold of these weapons any way they can. So you think things should just stay as they are? That we should do nothing because these bad folks are always going to find a way to get these weapons? Where have you seen or heard that the government is coming to take your guns away? I appreciate your input and opinion Posted by vegaspeach I haven't heard that the government is coming to take my guns away. They are not going to do that. The Obama administrations approach to gun control isn't going to take my guns. And yes, something needs to be done, but the 23 actions that Obama just came up with doesn't address the criminal element. It targets the responsible gun owner. It is like back when we were in school, and the class clown did something wrong, and the teacher punished the whole class for it, with double homework. I don't have the answer you want. Banning assault weapons, won't make assault weapons go away. Restricting clips to 10 rounds doesn't stop a person from carrying multiple clips. Making me, go thru a more intense background check, or mental health evaluation, doesn't make the criminal element go thru a more intense background check or mental health evaluation. Lanza didn't buy the guns he used. He didn't go thru a background check, or mental health evaluation. His mother was supposed to have told people to be leery of him, and not turn their back on him, yet she herself didn't secure her own weapons. And it cost her, her life. This is a very tough issue, and even if someone goes to a gun shop, and fails a background check, will it stop him/her from seeking other means of obtaining a weapon? Probably not. I wish I had the ultimate answer, but I don't. And I don't see where any of the 23 actions taken by Obama is the answer. I have guns. I live in Louisiana, and we have an "Open Carry" law. As long as my gun is not concealed, I can carry it with me to most places. There are places that are restricted too. I, personally, have a concealed permit. ALL of my guns are registered, and I keep them in a gun safe. And most of the time, I do have my gun with me. I shoot at the range quite often. I have never had to use my guns in public, but that is not to say I wouldn't try to stop a crazy shooter. I don't want to be a hero, and hope I would never be pushed into that kind of situation. But in today's world, I don't want to be the victim either. I'm not going to go out because some clown is off his rocker. These shooters do these cowardly crimes in gun free zones, like schools, movie theaters, and malls, because they can inflict mass casualties knowing there are no guns there to stop them. The city, state, and country doesn't, and can't guarantee my safety. Even a complete outlawing of guns, wouldn't keep the criminal element from obtaining a weapon. Man is mans worst enemy. Until man evolves to a higher level, where respect for human life is the ultimate law, this will never stop. So for me anyway, I stay prepared. Do we put thumbprint readers in guns so only the owner can fire them? Maybe. Could that be bypassed or hacked? Probably. I wish I could answer you better, or come up with a solution. |

In Response to Re: Gun Toters Question: Thanks for you input wisemagic. I hope there can be some resolve and certainly hope for man to evolve to a higher respect for human life, we sure do need that. Posted by vegaspeach You're welcome. I wish I could be more precise, and come up with a definitive solution to the craziness. I'm also a trucker. Going to have to talk to dispatch. Haven't been to Vegas for quite a while...lol Take care, and stay alert.

I know we all have our opinions and I respect that, but after we lost those little Angels in Newtown, Conn. and some of those precious little ones were shot 11 times, I've had enough and its time for common sense. I am all for the right to bear arms and I own a firearm, but In my humble opinion there is no legitimate reason for any civilian to have a weapon that carries 30 - 100 rounds of ammunition. These Assault type weapons are made to kill dozens of people at one time. The way I see it is, If you cant defend yourself with a 45 handgun carrying 10 rounds or a 12 gauge shotgun carrying 8 slugs, then maybe you shouldn't be carrying any weapon. Four of our most recent mass shootings were committed by suspects carrying Assault Style Rifles with 30 round magazines. Purchases at Gun Shows without background checks should also be banned. Does it make any sense that a Terrorist, who is on our " No Fly " list can still drive to a gun show in several of our states and purchase 10 Assault Rifles that carry 30 - 100 rounds of ammunition ? Is that how easy we want gun buying to be ? There are over 300 million known firearms out there in the U.S. already. When is enough enough ? Ask yourself one question. Which one of Obama's 23 actions would have prevented a 15 year old boy from killing 5 family members with an assault weapon? It's very simple... NOT ONE OF THEM. Friends, STAY ALERT, especially in gun free zones like malls, schools, churches, and even parking lots, because the next shooter is out there. And he doesn't care about Obama's 23 Gun Control Actions. Change.org does have a petition going The Government: Reenact the Federal Assault Weapons Ban and Make it Law. http://www.change.org/petitions/the-government-reenact-the-federal-assault-weapons-ban-and-make-it-law?utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=url_share&utm_campaign=url_share_before_sign |
